LeBron James’ Former Teammate’s Massive Luka Doncic Truth Bombs Won’t be Liked By Dallas Mavericks Fans

Luka Doncic is the front-runner to win the NBA award in 2023 after a strong start to his 2022–2023 season. Kendrick Perkins, an NBA champion, doesn’t think the Dallas Mavericks guard belongs in the MVP discussion. If you examine the statistics, Luka Doncic of the Mavericks is clearly the NBA MVP frontrunner. He has done a little bit of everything for Dallas this season with averages of 33.5 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 8.6 assists on 50.5% shooting.

If you haven’t heard, Luka Doncic has been balling hard. With each of his recent performances, the Mavericks guard has been writing his name among the all-time greats. The 23-year-old is the only player since Wilt Chamberlain to have at least 30 points in his first nine games of the season.

Kendrick Perkins isn’t convinced by Luka Doncic hype train

Because of the Mavericks’ positioning in the Western Conference standings, Perkins has consistently dropped Doncic from his list of the top five MVP contenders. He reaffirmed his position on “NBA Today,” this time asking all the “Doncic for MVP” supporters a question.

“I know Richard Jefferson is probably somewhere watching this right now,” Perkins said. “But he has been on my tail for the last couple of days about me not having Luka in my top-five MVP conversation. You go down to Detroit without Cade Cunningham and you lose this game last night.”

“See, here is the problem. I’m not hating on Luka. I think he is an unbelievable talent, he’s an awesome talent, he’s a showbox, he’s everything, and more. But when we talk about the MVP conversation, your record can’t be 10-11. You can’t be sitting at the No. 11 spot in the Western Conference.”

Luka Doncic is the league’s top scorer, averaging 33.5 PPG, 8.8 RPG, and 8.6 APG while shooting 50.5% from the field. Unfortunately, the Mavericks haven’t been able to benefit from their superstar’s incredible run; they now have a 10-10 record and are just above the +500 level.

The biggest issue with Luka is perhaps how dependent on having the ball in his hands for him to be effective. When he’s on the floor, Doncic almost runs the Mavericks’ offense by himself, with one of the greatest usage rates in NBA history.
