- ATLDean Pees Announces His Retirement
Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator Dean Pees informed the players on Monday that he is retiring, according to sources. The 73-year-old had been weighing the decision in recent weeks. The Falcons are expected to conduct a wide search for their next defensive coordinator. It's the third time that Pees has actually announced his retirement from coaching, but he just finished his 50th year as a coach, dating all the way back to high school. Pees spent the last two years in Atlanta with head coach Arthur Smith. Atlanta finished 23rd in points allowed and No. 27 in yards allowed but gave up no more than 20 points in a game just once in the final six games.

The Atlanta Falcons released practice-squad wide receiver Cameron Batson on Monday after he was booked and charged with five crimes stemming from his arrest early on Saturday morning. Batson was charged with assault, battery, aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer when engaged on official duty, removal of a weapon from a public official and driving/fleeing to elude a police officer. If convicted, he could face up to 20 years in prison. The 27-year-old has been with the Falcons all season but was never called up to the active roster. In three seasons with the Tennessee Titans, he caught 22 of 29 targets for 197 yards and two touchdowns in 27 games (three starts). There's a good chance we won't see Batson back in the NFL ever again.

The Atlanta Falcons signed free-agent fullback Clint Ratkovich to their practice squad on Tuesday, according to a source. Ratkovich was one of the draft's top fullbacks before he tore his ACL in a private workout for the Green Bay Packers. Because of the knee injury, the 25-year-old went undrafted, although he did get a workout for the Chicago Bears last month. The Falcons will take a chance on him with an eye toward the future. In his final year in college at Northern Illinois, Ratkovich had 98 carries for 448 yards and 12 touchdowns, but he'll likely operate mostly as a blocker in the NFL.

Atlanta Falcons running back Caleb Huntley (Achilles) will miss the team's final three games after the major injury he suffered in Week 15. Huntley finishes the season with 76 carries for 366 yards and two touchdowns. Ever since Cordarrelle Patterson returned from Injured Reserve in Week 9, Huntley hasn't been a fantasy factor, so there's no big fantasy impact to the news. Patterson and rookie running back Tyler Allgeier will continue to split the backfield work down the stretch for Atlanta.
Source : RotoBallerUpdated : Dec 19, 2022, 7:10:46 PM - ATLInjured Caleb Huntley Could Be Dealing With Serious Injury
Atlanta Falcons head coach Arthur Smith said that running back Caleb Huntley's ankle injury didn't look good in the Week 15 loss to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. Huntley is going for an MRI exam on Monday to determine the severity of the injury. With only three regular season games left, there's a good chance we won't see the 24-year-old running back the rest of the way for Atlanta. In the loss to the Saints, Huntley carried the ball just one time for two yards and wasn't targeted in the passing game. With both Cordarrelle Patterson and Tyler Allgeier healthy, Huntley belongs on the waiver wire in most single-season fantasy leagues. If his injury is serious enough to sideline him the rest of the way, Avery Williams would be elevated to the No. 3 role.

Atlanta Falcons running back Caleb Huntley (ankle) has been ruled out for the remainder of Week 15 versus the New Orleans Saints. He had one rush for two yards before exiting. Cordarrelle Patterson and Tyler Allgeier will continue to lead the backfield.
Source : RotoBallerUpdated : Dec 18, 2022, 6:27:03 PM - ATLInjured Marcus Mariota To Have Surgery, Will Land On IR
Atlanta Falcons head coach Arthur Smith said that quarterback Marcus Mariota (knee) will have knee surgery and will land on Injured Reserve, ending his 2022 season. Rookie quarterback Desmond Ridder would have started the rest of the season, regardless. "I'm not a medical expert, I'm just telling you that it had nothing to do with the decision," Smith said. The Falcons want an opportunity to evaluate Ridder in the final four games of the regular season, beginning in Week 15 against the New Orleans Saints on the road in a hostile environment. Like Mariota, Ridder has dual-threat abilities at the QB position, and although he looked good in the preseason, he's bound to struggle at times in his first four NFL games to close out the season. A timetable for Mariota's return will be determined after he undergoes knee surgery.
Source : RotoBallerUpdated : Dec 14, 2022, 5:23:43 PM - ATLInjured Falcons Release Damien Williams
The Atlanta Falcons released veteran running back Damien Williams (ribs) on Monday, according to a source. Williams is said to be "100 percent healthy and well-rested." Williams had been on Injured Reserve with the Falcons and hasn't played since the season opener. The 30-year-old is still hoping to play this year, but it remains to be seen if another organization will take a chance on him with four games remaining in the regular season. In 12 games (two starts) for the Chicago Bears in 2021, Williams had 40 carries for 164 yards and two touchdowns, adding 16 receptions on 23 targets for 103 yards and one touchdown in the passing game. Williams should remain on the waiver wire in all single-year fantasy leagues.
Source : RotoBallerUpdated : Dec 13, 2022, 4:14:13 AM - ATLInjured Marcus Mariota Could Go On Injured Reserve
Atlanta Falcons quarterback Marcus Mariota could be heading to Injured Reserve as he's dealing with a knee injury. Mariota is not at the Falcons' facility on Monday and head coach Arthur Smith said he anticipates he'll go on Injured Reserve, but he is getting his knee looked at. During the bye week, rookie Desmond Ridder was announced as the Falcons' starting quarterback for the game against the New Orleans Saints. Logan Woodside was signed to the Falcons' active roster off of the Tennessee Titans' practice squad, presumably to be the Falcons' QB2.
Source : RotoBallerUpdated : Dec 12, 2022, 7:37:45 PM - ATLMarcus Mariota Benched For Desmond Ridder
The Atlanta Falcons are looking to the future and making the quarterback switch from Marcus Mariota to rookie Desmond Ridder, according to sources. Ridder will make his first career NFL start in Week 15 against the New Orleans Saints on the road when the team comes off their bye this week. Mariota is due $12 million next year, including a $3 million roster bonus due on the fifth day of the new league year in March. The Falcons want to get ahead of it now and get a look at Ridder, a third-rounder, to close out the year after Mariota completed just 59 percent of his passes in the last five games. Like Mariota, Ridder can be dangerous with his arm and legs, giving opponents plenty to think about. The 23-year-old looked pretty good in the preseason, but he has yet to take a regular season snap and is bound to have his struggles to close out the season.
