- SEATy France Agrees To One-Year, $4.1 Million Deal
The Seattle Mariners agreed to a one-year, $4.1 million deal on Friday to avoid salary arbitration with first baseman Ty France. The 28-year-old has found a home in Seattle and has had a really nice last couple of seasons. He made the All-Star team for the first time in his career in 2022 and finished with a .274/.338/.436 slash line, .774 OPS, career-high 20 home runs, career-high 83 RBI and 65 runs scored in 613 plate appearances over 140 games played. France isn't elite by any means, but he's not a bad consolation prize at the first base position and resides in a Mariners lineup that is dangerous. He has produced a .283 average, .795 OPS, 38 home runs and 157 RBI in his last two seasons with the M's.

The Seattle Mariners and relief pitcher Paul Sewald avoided salary arbitration on Friday be agreeing to a one-year, $4.1 million deal. Sewald had the best year of his career in his second season in Seattle in 2022, posting a career-low 2.67 ERA (3.88 FIP), career-low 0.77 WHIP, career-high 20 saves and 29.8 percent strikeout rate in 64 innings over 65 relief appearances. He did have surgery on both his elbow and heel in December, but he is expected to be ready for the start of spring training. The 32-year-old veteran should open the 2023 campaign as the favorite in Seattle for saves, but if he falters at all, the M's have some other pretty good ninth-inning options in Andres Munoz and Diego Castillo.

The Seattle Mariners agreed with free-agent first baseman Colin Moran on a minor-league deal on Tuesday that includes an invite to major-league spring training, according to a source. In 128 plate appearances over 42 games, he hit .211/.305/.376 with a .681 OPS, five home runs, 23 RBI and 11 runs scored. The 30-year-old left-handed-hitting corner infielder will provide an ascending Mariners club with some more corner-infield depth heading into 2023, but he won't be on the fantasy radar. In 502 career games (1,692 plate appearances) over seven big-league seasons, Moran has posted a .263/.327/.415 slash line with 50 homers, 239 RBI, 167 runs scored and a stolen base.

According to a tweet from The New York Post's Jon Heyman on Wednesday morning, the Seattle Mariners have reportedly signed relief pitcher Casey Sadler to a minor-league deal. The 32-year-old most recently pitched during the 2021 season, during which he logged a 0.67 ERA and a 2.48 FIP in 40.1 innings in a bullpen role for the Mariners. He also struck out 37 batters compared to just 10 walks during the 2021 season and logged 15 holds in his 42 appearances. The veteran didn't pitch in the Majors last season due to shoulder surgery, but he'll provide the American League West club with some additional bullpen depth heading into the 2023 campaign.

Seattle Mariners president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto confirmed on Tuesday that utility player Dylan Moore (core) will have surgery for a core injury that has bothered him since the end of last season. Moore is in Philadelphia to have the surgery in the coming days, and it will come with a six- to eight-week recovery timetable. Barring any setbacks after his procedure, the 30-year-old should be good to go for spring training next year. He'll continue to serve in a utility platoon role while almost exclusively playing against left-handed pitching. Moore is useful for his speed (21 steals in each of the last two years) in deeper leagues. He slashed .224/.368/.385 with six homers, 24 RBI and 41 runs in 104 games in 2022.

The Seattle Mariners acquired second baseman Kolten Wong from the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday in exchange for outfielder Jesse Winker and third baseman Abraham Toro, according to sources. The Brewers picked up Wong's $10 million club option for the 2023 season but then dealt him to Seattle on Friday. In Seattle, Wong will become the everyday second baseman next year, replacing free-agent Adam Frazier at the keystone. The 32-year-old veteran will be leaving a hitter-friendly ballpark for a more pitcher-friendly one in the Pacific Northwest, so he could see some regression at the plate in 2023 after slashing .251/.339/.430 with a career-high 15 home runs, 47 RBI, 65 runs scored and 17 stolen bases in 134 games in 2022. Wong will have plenty of opportunities to score runs in this Mariners lineup.

The Seattle Mariners signed free-agent relief pitcher Trevor Gott to a one-year deal Monday, per The Seattle Times' Ryan Divish. The 30-year-old compiled a 4.14 ERA with 11 holds and four blown saves through 45 2/3 innings in 2022 with the Brewers. Gott has never served in a high-leverage bullpen position throughout his career, so he holds little fantasy relevance.

The Seattle Mariners added right-handers Prelander Berroa and Isaiah Campbell and outfielders Jonatan Clase and Cade Marlowe to their 40-man roster on Tuesday, protecting them from this week's Rule 5 draft. Per MLB Pipeline, Berroa (No. 15), Campbell (24), Clase (12) and Marlowe (21) are all among the team's top-25 prospects. Berroa, 22, had a 2.86 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 150 strikeouts in 100 2/3 innings over 26 starts in three minor-league stops this season, but he also walked 63 batters. He'll need to get his control figured out before he advances to Triple-A. Clase is still only 20 years and hasn't played above Single-A, so he still has plenty of developing to do. The switch-hitter batted .267 with 13 home runs, 49 RBI, 91 runs scored and 55 stolen bases in 107 games for Single-A Modesto in 2022.
