Is J Cole in the NBA? Rapper’s cover image on NBA 2K23 has fans puzzled

Welcome to the newest release from NBA 2K23, which features J Cole on the cover if you enjoy purchasing the most costly, deluxe versions of video games imaginable.

A non-basketball player has never before been on the cover of an NBA 2K game. Numerous NBA and WNBA players have previously been developed for particular markets, but J Cole is on another level entirely. His collaboration with Puma to create the “Dreamer” basketball shoes and his Dreamville business are both referenced in the “Dreamer Edition.”

The “Dreamer Edition” of the computer game NBA 2K23 features J. Cole in the clouds. The Dreamville boss, who earlier this year agreed to play for the Scarborough Shooting Stars in the Canadian Elite Basketball League, will also serve as a playable character in the MyCareer storyline and executive produce this year’s game’s soundtrack, which is scheduled to be released in November.

This year’s soundtrack will debut with 36 songs from artists including Drake, Jack Harlow, Megan Thee Stallion, Joey Badass, Ski Mask the Slump God, Rod Wave, Lil Tecca, Doja Cat, 21 Savage, Masked Wolf, Snow Tha Product, BlocBoy JB, Polo G, Lil Baby, one of Cole’s Dreamville artists, JID, and more; three new tracks are expected to be released every Friday.

According to Alfie Brody, vice president of global marketing strategy at NBA 2K, “the sheer scale, depth, and talent included in this year’s MyCAREER delivers an unrivaled experience within NBA 2K23.” The most talented person on that list is our first cover star, who genuinely lives at the nexus of music and basketball. NBA 2K23 has become a pillar of culture, which is demonstrated by bringing visionary like J. Cole and DREAMER into the creative process for both the game and the soundtrack.

Cole tweeted a picture of the game’s heavenly cover art along with the words “This s-t crazy” and seven exploding head emojis.

Cole added in a statement that “NBA 2K has long been a venue to find fresh musical talent through their game and continues to be a gold standard for displaying everything basketball culture. It’s been an incredible experience to be a part of the MyCAREER storyline, and soundtrack, and introduce the Dreamer brand into NBA 2K, in addition to being featured on the cover of this year’s game.”
