Aron Baynes comeback: Australian big man set to work out for NBA teams in Las Vegas

Aron Baynes is scheduled to take part in tryouts for teams on Saturday in Las Vegas, one year after suffering a crippling neck injury.

The 2020–21 NBA season, which was impacted by COVID, saw Baynes, who won a championship with the San Antonio Spurs in 2014, make his final appearance with the Toronto Raptors. He had a 6.1-point and 5.2 rebound average. His representative, Daniel Moldovan, said to ESPN that his client was prepared to pick up where he left off, having recovered his health.

“It’s a remarkable comeback and a testament to all the hard work he’s put in,” Moldovan stated. The 6-foot-10 Australian had to relearn how to walk after suffering such a terrible injury. The accident happened during the Australian National Team’s Olympic campaign in Tokyo.

When Baynes was discovered unconscious on the lavatory floor with two serious puncture wounds to his arm, the Boomers were competing against Italy in the group stage of the competition.

Baynes suffered an injury during the second-half warm-ups of Australia’s match against Nigeria three days earlier. He fell and hit his head and neck, missing the whole second half as a safety measure.

His breakdown in the restroom three days later was widely believed to have been caused by that fall. “Really, we have no idea what transpired. The precise cause is unknown to the neurologists. But after that fall, I was in a lot of agonies “Added Baynes. “I required pain relievers to play since I was really uncomfortable.”

After being transported to the hospital, an MRI showed he had an internal haemorrhage, which was pressing on his spinal cord and severely restricting his movement. Baynes was hospitalized for a month before beginning the recovery process. He will have the chance to return to the NBA more than a year from now with workouts planned in Las Vegas.

In 2020–21, Baynes made 53 starts with the Toronto Raptors, averaging 6.1 points and 5.2 rebounds per contest. Additionally, he has played for San Antonio, Detroit, Boston, and Phoenix in the past. It will be fantastic to see Baynes back on the court (and potentially irritate some of the NBA’s best stars again), even though nobody is yet sure how much he still has to give.
