Top 3 slot receivers for the 2022 season

The slot receiver position grew considerably in importance over the last decade as NFL offenses shifted toward an approach with more use of 11 personnel, which saw teams move to three-receivers sets. As such, having two guys on the outside wasn’t enough anymore.

For this exercise, we’ve separated into two categories: slot and outside receivers, which is why you’ll not see some known receiver names here. But don’t worry – they’re all present in our article about wide receivers.

Check out the top three slot receivers for the 2022 season:

#1 – Cooper Kupp, Los Angeles Rams

Kupp was undeniably the league’s best wide receiver in 2021 even as a slot, and he won the Super Bowl MVP award after a great game, and he sets to repeat his great year as his bond with Matthew Stafford gets stronger. With a fantastic route running and a great ability to make some extra yards after the catch, Kupp is a really difficult guy to defend against. He should dominate defenses once again.

#2 – Tyreek Hill, Miami Dolphins

Hill is a nightmare to any defense whenever he aligns, but there are some fair doubts about how he’s going to fare with Tua Tagovailoa as his new quarterback. While Patrick Mahomes has a cannon for an arm, Tagovailoa’s main strength is his accuracy, but he’s not a great quarterback when the subject is the deep ball. Hill’s speed and quickness will see him earn a lot of yards after the catch, but his verticality might not be as useful as it was in Kansas City.

#3 – Chris Godwin, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Godwin’s situation with the franchise is really good: he’s set to be healthy for the 2022 season and, with Rob Gronkowski and Antonio Brown gone, his role in the offense will be bigger. It remains to be seen how he’ll return after a serious knee injury, but he’s savvy and really smart to find space in the middle of the defense. His big extension was well deserved.
