‘They look a scary team to face’ – NBA fans react as Minnesota Timberwolves sign Austin Rivers on one-year deal
Austin Rivers, a former guard for the Denver Nuggets, and the Minnesota Timberwolves have reached a one-year contract agreement, according to Wojnarowski and ESPN’s Dave Spahn. The 29-year-old played with the Nuggets in 2021–2022 on a one-year deal.
After being moved from the New York Knicks to the Oklahoma City Thunder during the 2020–21 season, it was his first complete season in Denver. Rivers provided the Nuggets with strong depth off the bench in support of Will Barton. In 67 games, he shot 41.7 percent from the field and 34.2 percent from outside the arc for a point total of 6.0, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.3 assists.

For years, Rivers has been moving around the NBA, filling in for teams’ rotational deficits. His finest season came when he took on a larger role for his father Doc Rivers with the Clippers. He was a lottery pick when he was first chosen. As a little role player who can occasionally go hot off the bench, Rivers is now filling in for teams.
Rivers’ ability to hit three-pointers has improved, which has allowed him to remain in the league. Over the course of his first four NBA seasons, the guard made 32.9 percent of his long shots. In the six seasons that followed, he made 35.5 percent of his threes.

Most NBA teams will use Rivers as a bench player if he can maintain his sporadic reliability from beyond the arc. The seasoned guard might be the ideal Patrick Beverley replacement after he was dealt to Utah as part of the Rudy Gobert mega-trade.
Tim Connelly, the new head of basketball operations in Minnesota, signed Rivers to a contract with the Nuggets for two seasons in a row before landing him a deal with the Timberwolves.
The veteran has had his issues, but he’s shown to be a good depth player for teams hoping to challenge for the championship—especially on defense. With the new Timberwolves, who made one of the greatest offseason splashes by trading for center Rudy Gobert, he will now have the chance to achieve that.
NBA fans react to Austin Rivers signing for Timberwolves
Canis Hoopus reacted on Twitter, “Austin Rivers signing with the Timberwolves means it’s a great time to re-share this video of him challenging Kevin Garnett to a game of one-on-one.” “So the Wolves have added Kyle Anderson, Austin Rivers and Brun Forbes to a best that ranked 8th best in the NBA last season”, another fan reacted.
Here are a few more tweets around the deal:

Austin Rivers + Bryn Forbes provide the Wolves with experienced guard depth, which will be valuable over the course of an 82 game season + the playoffs.
Still, I expect Jordan McLaughlin + Jaylen Nowell to be the Wolves’ bench guards on opening night.pic.twitter.com/j3F8hBy0Q9

The Timberwolves have signed Austin Rivers.
That’s a great bench depth piece. Connelly is familiar with him from Denver.
I love it.
