During his Tuesday appearance on The Howard Stern Show, Smith expressed his desire to engage in a discussion with Trump “any day of the week.”

The sports pundit also shared his thoughts on the previous president’s management style, asserting that Trump’s followers adore the “level of incivility” he brought to the White House.

He stated that he could defeat the former President and that he is ready to take him on at any time and location, pointing out that he is accustomed to a confrontational environment on “First Take.” Stephen A. Smith, ruling out a presidential candidacy himself, stated,

“Obviously, I have my show First Take on ESPN every weekday morning. I would love to be in a presidential debate. I’d eat him alive. I wouldn’t run for the presidency, but I’d debate Trump any day of the week. Any day of the week! Name the time and place and I’ll show up!”

“Do you know what I would do if I was on the stage with Trump and Trump tried to talk about the way that  I look? Do you know how much material I would have? Look at him. Are you kidding me? I marvel at how people have limited comebacks for him. Jeb Bush, ‘low energy,’ no comeback. Marco Rubio, ‘little Marco,’ no comeback.”

The ESPN personality said that if being the Commander-in-Chief is what matters most to oneself, then one must successfully communicate—even if it means punching back—to Howard Stern’s theory that it may be because individuals taking part in presidential debates did not want to debase themselves. He declared,

“What’s it worth to you, Howard? If it’s worth it to me, I’m gonna be ready. You gotta be a communicator. If you’re aspiring to be the commander in chief you gotta know how to communicate, you gotta know how to resonate with an audience!”

“Times have gotten crazy, but times have been crazy for a long time,” Smith said, citing prior presidential killings and attempts throughout American history.

However, the ESPN host did note that Trump’s behavior in office has added to the craziness, saying, “Here’s the difference: In the case of Trump, he’s made incivility popular and acceptable. That’s what he has done.”

Stern interrupted, “Absolutely.”

“I shouldn’t say that,” Smith said. Not because he’s made it that way. I believe there were people craving to be that way; and once he arrived, they said, ‘We got our guy. Now, it’s perfectly all right because we see him do it.’”
