Shaq and Kevin Durant’s Twitter exchange over NBA player salaries sparks chaos
The NBA’s current players are often the target of Shaquille O’Neal’s critiques, and one of the things that annoy the Hall of Famer is how much money they are making. Shaq shouldn’t be worrying about how much money someone else makes, according to Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant.
In the most recent episode of his podcast, NBA star Shaquille O’Neal criticized the recent wave of expensive contracts that players in the modern era have signed. In reaction to Kevin Durant’s assertion that he had an issue with former basketball players, O’Neal made the comments.

Once O’Neal’s comments went around social media earlier in the week, Durant responded. “Shaquille is hilarious. You’re a billionaire bro lol,” he wrote.

O’Neal responded: “i know i’m hilarious (sic), and i’m not a billionaire i’m actually broke. but will always speak facts. thank you saying i’m funny means a lot.”

Shaq had previously criticized Rudy Gobert’s lengthy deal extension with the Utah Jazz. After Charles Barkley continued to criticize Durant for playing for the Golden State Warriors, Durant responded in a tweet by calling Barkley a “hatin’ old head” and asserting that previous players cannot “understand that we earning more bread than them.”
On “The Big Podcast,” the former Los Angeles Lakers player acknowledged that Durant was largely correct.
This week, Shaq said that he and a few other former NBA great became “petty” when they see the salaries of current players. Rudy Gobert, a big player for the Utah Jazz, is now playing under a contract worth more than $200 million, he stated on his podcast.

“Do you think I’m delighted that Rudy Gobert made $250 million, I’ll tell you something? Therefore, KD, you’re entirely correct,” O’Neal remarked. “We’re upset about how we missed out on it. These shooters are making $30 million while shooting 22%.
“We get angry because (Dennis Scott) shot damn close to 45 to 50 percent during his career and the most he probably earned was $7 million. When we do, guess what happens? We have a viewpoint, and it matters.” he concluded.
