‘Ref called me a bad*** mother******’ – Mavs’ Spencer Dinwiddie spills beans on conversation after technical foul against Raptors
Dallas Mavericks player Spencer Dinwiddie took issue with the actions of referee Tony Brothers on Friday night during the game against the Toronto Raptors. Dinwiddie said that the veteran official used disrespectful words to describe him to one of his Dallas teammates after calling him for a technical foul. Dinwiddie was given a technical foul by Brothers when he approached him in an attempt to protest a takeaway foul call with 47.8 seconds remaining in the second quarter.
Dinwiddie started his postgame speech to the media by acknowledging that he may have used a curse word to convey his point, but that he did not intend for it to be taken in an inappropriate manner. The Mavericks won 111-110. Dinwiddie continued by asserting that he later discovered from a teammate that Brothers had called him a “b—— ass motherf——” earlier in the game. Dinwiddie made this claim with reference to an incident that occurred during the game.

Spencer Dinwiddie apologized to Tony Brothers
Dinwiddie expressed his regret to Tony Brothers by saying, “I apologize for the clap that appeared to keep him unhappy.” He thought that that was a very impolite thing to do. Even though it had nothing to do with who I am as a person, I still feel the need to apologize, first and foremost.
If you watch the games knowing that this is what the officials are meant to do, then you will notice that I clap in order to draw the attention of my teammates. More importantly, I’d like to say that I’d like my teammates to stop calling me a motherf—ing jackass, as well as ask for the money I was fined to be returned.
Dinwiddie stated that he was aware of the fact that referees and other officials also experience the intensity of the moment during a game, but that all he wanted was for Brothers to communicate with him face-to-face rather than behind his back. Brothers
According to Tim MacMahon of ESPN, Dinwiddie was quoted as saying, “Everybody’s a competitor out there.” He continued, “I understand it’s the heat of the moment.” There is no doubt in my mind that I have cursed in the past, but if I were playing against someone on the opposing side and they said that to one of my teammates, I would be like, “Hey, I’m right here.”
“You can’t necessarily ask for that address due to the fact that referees are in positions of authority and other things, so I’m just taking my fair stance and saying, Hey, look if you feel that way, that’s great by me.” Say it to my face as any other adult man would, and I’ll consider it. That’s the only thing I ask for. Even the language doesn’t bother me,” she said. When people are upset, sensitive, or hurt, we have all been guilty of making insensitive statements in the past. It’s not a big deal. Just tell me out loud.” he added.
Brothers, a referee with 29 years of experience and one of the league’s longest-serving officials, was not made available for comment after the game. Brothers are also one of the longest-serving officials in the league.
