NBA Reports: Philadelphia 76ers Possibly Trading For A Star?

The NBA is aware that Daryl Morey, the president of basketball operations for the Philadelphia 76ers, isn’t scared to make a bold move in the trade market. Having said that, it’s obvious that the Sixers won’t pursue celebrities merely for the pleasure of doing so.

NBA Reports: Philadelphia 76ers Possibly Trading For A Star?

Landing a top player was the perfect reward, as Morey made plain throughout the now-resolved James Harden issue. His transfer took a different course when the Sixers received draft compensation and a number of role players in exchange for the ten-time All-Star guard.

Joel Embiid is performing on par with his MVP performance from the previous season, if not better. Tyrese Maxey has advanced farther toward being a player deserving of an All-Star. A number of supporting players they acquired in the Harden deal have been helpful additions. And new head coach Nick Nurse had proven he was not the problem in Toronto over the last couple of seasons.

The compensation from the Los Angeles Clippers may be exchanged for a single, highly-regarded talent from another team, carrying out the President’s Plan B. The Sixers appear to be avoiding the market for some of the most well-known players available on the NBA trade deadline, though.

For this reason, there has been a great degree of conjecture over the organization’s potential to strike a big deal for a different player.

Through his newsletter on Saturday, seasoned NBA insider Marc Stein provided a significant update on the team’s position in the trade market. Regarding rumors of a possible trade for Zach LaVine of the Bulls or Pascal Siakam, the next free agency for the Raptors, Stein states, “a source with knowledge of the team’s thinking told me again this week that the Sixers should not be expected to pursue either player.”

“The Sixers are looking to be judicious with their future draft picks and projected salary-cap space this summer, which is an approach they’ve been emboldened to take thanks to Tyrese Maxey’s emergence as a potential All-Star in the East alongside Embiid.

“The Sixers are still expected to explore potential trades over the next five or so weeks that do raise their current team’s ceiling … but the strong sense I’ve gotten is that they want to be careful with future flexibility as they continue to build around Embiid and Maxey. ‘Thoughtful’ is how it was expressed to me.”

As per previous reports, the Sixers appear uninterested in pursuing a trade with any of their Eastern Conference opponents.

“Philadelphia is routinely tossed out there as a likely trade bidder for Chicago’s Zach LaVine or Toronto’s Pascal Siakam, but a source with knowledge of the team’s thinking told me again this week that the Sixers should not be expected to pursue either player between now and Feb. 8.”

By now, the LaVine market has dried up for the season. The high-flying talent missed more than a month of action due to an injury during the season’s opening stretch, on top of his struggles to find his rhythm.

Although LaVine is clearly gifted, his contract has obviously been a factor that’s LaVine is undoubtedly talented, but his contract has certainly been a factor.

Even if the Sixers have the pieces to pull off a major deal, Morey will be wary of going all in right now since it may prevent the franchise from having a greater summer splash. The Sixers are the unique team that has the cap room and trade chips necessary to pursue a large fish. You could be better off taking a chance with Embiid, Maxey, and a ton of depth in playoffs, even though it may not be what the fans want to hear.

Where did Zach LaVine go to college?

LaVine was recognized as the state’s best high school athlete while growing up in the Seattle region. He was a UCLA Bruins basketball player in college. He played one season at UCLA before entering the NBA as one of the Pac-12 Conference’s best freshman.
