NBA Hall of Famer Reggie Miller turns attention to mountain biking after basketball career
Professional athletes frequently have interests outside of their sport. Golf is a popular sport. Some people cook, play tennis or bowl. Reggie Miller, a member of the NBA Hall of Fame and a current TNT announcer, enjoys mountain riding.
He recently admitted to Jason Gay of The Wall Street Journal that he would even consider his training regimen for upcoming races when he is announcing a game. Miller’s riding skills have advanced to the point where he competes against “pro” cyclists. But Miller, 56, doesn’t anticipate competing professionally in motorsports.

Miller began mountain biking in 2000 when he was still a member of the Indiana Pacers as an additional means of keeping fit, but he didn’t start increasing his rides until he left the team in 2005. Miller has since participated in many events and, in February 2021, joined the board of directors of USA Cycling.
Reggie Miller’s love and passion for cycling
‘Although I am a tiny man, I played in the NBA for 18 years while maintaining a weight of 195 to 190 pounds. According to Miller, you need a little more weight if you set 30 screens on Shaquille O’Neal. I’ve constantly been cycling since I retired, and in the last five years, I’ve focused on racing. As a result, I’m down to 185 pounds, and on a long endurance ride, I’ll drop below 180. I believe I am currently in the finest physical condition of my life.’ he said.
Since joining the board, Reggie Miller has concentrated on promoting the sport among underrepresented groups, particularly at Historically Black Colleges and Universities. However, he isn’t content to stop there.

Miller claimed that the funniest aspect of his off-court antics is how much weight he has shed since he began competing more regularly after retiring. At the NBA 75th Anniversary Team celebration, players made fun of Miller, saying that his physique made him seem like he could stick around. Miller gives cycling credit.
In the 1990s, Miller was among the NBA’s top players. In the history of American professional basketball, just 11 players have finished a season with at least a 50% field goal shooting percentage, a 40% 3-point shooting percentage, and a 90% free throw shooting percentage. He was selected an All-Star five times throughout his NBA career. Miller scored 25,279 points in his career, but his most memorable moment was in 1995 Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals when he defeated the New York Knicks by scoring eight points in nine seconds.
