NBA fans react as Devin Booker agrees 4-year, $224 million supermax extension with Phoenix Suns

The franchise player of the Phoenix Suns is currently earning the team’s highest salary ever. Devin Booker, a three-time All-Star, has signed a supermax contract for $224 million over four years after being named to the All-NBA first team this season, which qualified him for it.

The four-year, $224 million agreement that was initially reported Thursday night by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski was verified Friday morning to The Republic by Booker’s agent, Jessica Holtz of CAA Basketball. At the opening of free agency on Thursday, the Suns may give Booker that offer.

They did so without any hesitation. When Booker signed a rookie maximum agreement of five years and $158 million, he was already the highest-paid player in the history of the team. Now, the Kentucky native who was selected with the 13th overall choice in the 2015 NBA Draft has agreed to a deal that is much greater and will take effect after his rookie max agreement expires.

Booker was entitled to $33.8 million in the current 2022–2023 season and $36 million the following year. The six-foot-five shooting guard Booker led Phoenix to the NBA’s best record this season—64-18—as he scored a career-high 26.8 points per game last season. A franchise high for wins in a regular season is 64, which was achieved this year.

This comes after Booker and the Suns advanced to the NBA Finals in 2021 but fell to Milwaukee in a best-of-six series. Since then, Booker has guided the Suns to the No. 1 overall seed in the 2022 playoffs, won a gold medal at the Olympics in Tokyo, and had a stellar season that saw him earn All-NBA honors for the first time in his career.

Fourth-seeded Dallas defeated the Suns by 33 points, 123-90, in Game 7 of the Western Conference playoffs in May. Booker’s first-ever Game 7 performance saw him score just 11 points on 3-of-14 shooting.

After a month, Booker is preparing for the upcoming season with a supermax. When asked about his summer on June 22, Booker responded, “It’s been good. I’ve been unwinding and improving. Now back on the court. Returning to the weight room was enjoyable. only preparing for the following year.”
