Lions’ Cameron Sutton’s Name On The Arrest Warrant For Domestic Violence Incident

For an incident that occurred in the Tampa suburb of Lutz, Florida, earlier this month, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office issued a warrant for Sutton’s arrest on one count of domestic violence by strangulation.

According to Phil Martello, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office, at around five in the morning on March 7, the department responded to a report of ongoing domestic abuse between Sutton, 29, and a female.

Hillsborough County police were called around 4:30 AM on March 7 in reference to a domestic altercation involving Sutton, according to Lions beat writer Justin Rogers.

The victim’s identity has been kept secret, and investigators have released the warrant on X, previously Twitter, since they have been unable to find Sutton despite several attempts to get in touch with him.

When a user on X questioned whether police had searched the Lions’ locker room in response to Hillsborough County’s arrest warrant post, the social media manager behind the account had a very interesting response.

According to Martello, the victim had injuries that suggested an event had occurred, and the same day, an arrest warrant was issued. The agency asked for assistance in identifying Sutton in a message shared on social media on Wednesday.

The sheriff’s office mentioned in the post that Sutton could be using a Jeep Grand Wagoneer and gave the license plate number. According to Martello, Sutton is thought to be in Florida rather than Michigan.

“We served his warrant on the seventh because of all the evidence that we found there,” Martello said. “Couldn’t find him here in Tampa, pretty sure he fled. We got a couple hits on his license plate (on) license plate readers, but haven’t been able to track him down here, so that’s where we’re at right now.

“They’ve attempted to make contact with him, can’t get him on the phone, so they’ve released — our detectives have exhausted everything to try and get ahold of him and that’s why we end up putting the stuff on social media.”

Before the 2023 season, Sutton signed a $33 million, three-year contract with the Lions as a free agent. Ifeatu Melifonwu, Brian Branch, Kerby Joseph, and freshly signed Carlton Davis make up Detroit’s secondary, which includes him.

In his 17 games as a starter for Detroit last season, the 29-year-old had 65 tackles, one forced fumble, six passes defensed, and one interception.

In 2017, the Pittsburgh Steelers selected Sutton in the third round after he played collegiate football at Tennessee. He was with the team for six seasons.
