‘Khabib Never Even Had a Close Fight’- Ali Abdelaziz Breaks Down Jon Jones’ Place on the GOAT List; Compares Khabib Nurmagomedov and Georges St-Pierre

Famed MMA manager Ali Abdelaziz chimed in on the frequently talked about GOAT debate in MMA and shared his assessment. According to the head honcho over at Dominance MMA, Jon Jones shouldn’t be helmed as the GOAT in the UFC.

Abdelaziz talked about how Jon Jones had a couple of close fights towards the end of his light heavyweight run that made fans question his dominance. In fact, many believe that ‘Bones’ Jones flat out lost his February 2020 fight against Dominick Reyes.

Instead of hailing Jones as the GOAT, Ali Abdelaziz offered up Khabib Nurmagomedov as the greatest fighter of all time. His argument for ‘The Eagle’ was that his dominance inside the cage was virtually unparalleled.

“The G.O.A.T. means inside the cage, outside the cage. Khabib never had close fight. You look at Jon Jones, his last three fights are very close fights. Khabib never even had a close fight. Dominance. Khabib is better.”

“Undefeated. In many rounds Khabib is better. Outside the cage Khabib is better. Khabib never had issues with USADA. None of this stuff. Of course Jon Jones is great fighter, but he could not tie the shoes of Khabib. I don’t think he can. He’s good, but Khabib is on another level.”

Ali Abdelaziz also placed welterweight icon Georges St-Pierre as the GOAT as he’s avenged both the losses he’s ever suffered in MMA.

“Many people you can say they’re GOATs. Georges St-Pierre, what a great human being. How can you not say he’s the GOAT … I’m not taking anything away from Jon Jones, but I don’t think he is. I can put Georges St-Pierre before him.” [h/t bjpenn.com]

Jon Jones’ legacy is sure to be defined by the final chapter of his career that is set to play out at heavyweight. ‘Bones’ has taken a sizeable hiatus from the sport and has worked on naturally filling out his 6’4” frame in order to be ready to face the heavyweight behemoths knocking on his door.

He is targeted to face Stipe Miocic later this year in what will be a title eliminator.
