Josh McDaniels Thanks Mark Davis for His ‘Support’ Amidst Reports That the Raiders Do Not Have Enough Money to Fire Him

Josh McDaniels has learned the hard way that being responsible for one part of a team and being responsible for the whole team are two very different things. In over a decade with the New England Patriots, McDaniels learned under the greatest coach the NFL has ever seen and held multiple different roles. He was a part of the team in all of the six Super Bowl-winning seasons and was the offensive coordinator in most of them.

However, as is often the case, younger coaches, after a few years of experience, tend to move on to take up the main role at another team. This is the same thing that McDaniels did as he opted for the role of head coach for the Las Vegas Raiders for the 2022 season, parting ways once again with the New England Patriots.

Josh McDaniels shares his thoughts on owner Mark Davis

Unfortunately for Josh McDaniels, things have not gone to plan as his team have lost seven out of nine games played. However, owner Mark Davis insists that McDaniel is doing a ‘fantastic job’. In a recent interview, McDaniels was asked about the importance of having the support of Davis.

He said, “I appreciate Mark’s support — I’ve always appreciated it. I’ve said that number of times. We’re all here because of him and we all want to do right by him. I think we knew when we came here that this is a longer-term view of, how do we get this thing to repeat? And that hasn’t happened here in a little while. Again, the immediate results that we’ve gotten so far, they aren’t what everybody’s hoping for or wanting.”

The former Patriots man continued, “But I think we’re also trying to keep an eye on a lot of things that would go into, how do you sustain it once you get it? It’s not easy to get, but once you get it, how do you sustain it? And that’s not easy either.”

Despite Davis’ public support, it is reported that the Raiders just do not have the money to fire Josh McDaniels. It is the same situation the team had with Jon Gruden, the former head coach who signed a 10-year deal worth nearly $100 million in 2018. The team still owed him approximately $40 million in guaranteed money at the time of his resignation, and the two sides eventually settled for an undisclosed amount.
