Giannis Antetokounmpo On Multiple Coach Changes: “It’s hard. It’s draining”

It would be an understatement to say that the Bucks are struggling with turnover, and Giannis Antetokounmpo is sick of it.

Giannis Antetokounmpo On Multiple Coach Changes: “It’s hard. It’s draining”

During the NBA trade deadline, Milwaukee made two trades: it sent Robin Lopez to the Kings and acquired Patrick Beverley from the 76ers. Surprisingly, though, the coaching staff has been the one undergoing fast changes over the past six months rather than the roster.

Just 36 games into Adrian Griffin’s debut season as head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks, the team decided to fire him last month. After four seasons with the team, Mike Budenholzer was fired in the summer, and he was replaced.

Following Griffin’s departure, the Bucks looked for a replacement head coach for three games, during which time Joe Prunty filled in. Enter Doc Rivers, who joined the team at the end of January.

Giannis Antetokounmpo, a standout player for the Bucks, was questioned about the previous six months of events at NBA All-standout Weekend. The two-time MVP acknowledged that navigating the coaching rotation was “hard.”

“It’s hard. It’s hard. This is my fourth coach in the span of six months. Coach (Mike Budenholzer), coach (Adrian Griffin), (interim) coach Joe (Prunty) and Doc (Rivers). Different philosophy, different game plan. It’s hard. It’s draining,” Antetokounmpo, according to the Athletic.

Adrian Griffin took over as head coach after Milwaukee’s first-round playoff elimination in May, following the departure of Mike Budenholzer.

After leading the Bucks to an NBA record of 30-13, which at the time was the second best, Griffin was dismissed in the middle of the season. His tenure for full time work is tied for the third-shortest of all time.

“I’m a student of the game,” Antetokounmpo said. “When somebody asks me to do something, I try to do it to the best of my ability. I try to understand what we’re trying to accomplish, both so I can understand and so I can be there for my teammates when they ask questions.”

Antetokounmpo expressed confidence in Rivers’ ability to turn things around for the Bucks, despite the team’s difficult start under the veteran coach.

“I love working with Coach Doc. He’s been very, very successful,” Antetokounmpo said. “We can talk all day about things he’s accomplished around the league. He’s won, I think, 1,100 NBA games. Some people have never played 1,100 games.

“He brings that level of — how can I say — a championship level to the team. He won. He’s coached a lot of successful teams in the past. When you have that guy in your bench, you have to bring your A game.”

Rivers, Antetokounmpo, and the Bucks will try to get back together and finish the season strong as they get ready for what they believe will be a deep postseason run now that the All-Star break has begun.

What is Giannis Antetokounmpo most famous for?

He is considered by many to be one of the best power forwards and players of all time. Antetokounmpo, whose parents are Nigerian, was born and reared in Athens and started playing basketball for the Filathlitikos juvenile teams there.

Why does Giannis wear 34?

He had revealed that the years 1963 and 1964, respectively, were the birth years of his parents. He thus came up with the number 34 to wear on his jersey by taking the 3 from his mother’s birth year and the 4 from his father’s birth year.
