Did LeBron James try and cover the Adidas logo on his jersey during the Drew League?
LeBron James had difficulty while playing in the Drew League this year. The Drew League’s uniform sponsor is Adidas. LeBron is not allowed to wear an Adidas jersey in such type of match or event under his contract. Nevertheless, he used some white tape and a black sleeveless Dri-Fit shirt to fix the jersey issue.
Lakers icon LeBron James wore Adidas during his high school years before switching to Nike for the duration of his basketball career. Although much has been made of the idea that iconic Adidas executive Sonny Vaccaro wanted his business to offer James a 10-year, $100 million contract, James famously signed a contract with Nike just before he entered the NBA.
James, playing with DeMar DeRozan of the Chicago Bulls, led the MMV Cheaters to a dramatic two-point victory on Saturday with a stellar stat line of 42 points, 16 rebounds, four steals, and three assists. In the tough victory, DeRozan contributed 30 points and 14 rebounds of his own.
James and DeRozan taped over the Adidas labels on top of their Drew League jerseys, perhaps out of devotion to the company with which they each have rich shoe agreements. They are also Nike players. The NBA players, therefore, seemed to have a blank spot on their shirts, in contrast to their other MMV Cheaters colleagues who sported the three stripes on their chests.
Whereas, both athletes wore Nikes during the match on Saturday. James sported a baby pink hue of an unreleased version of his iconic shoe, the Nike LeBron 20. Sneakers maestro Nick DePaula claims that DeRozan’s bright orange Kobe 6s were “inspired by the WNBA’s orange hoody.”
Michael Jordan also faced this issue once. Nike considers Michael Jordan to be one of their most revered athletes. He has been connected to Nike for many years. The same American business also helped Michael Jordan establish his brand.
According to Michael Jordan, the squad elected to wear the Reebok uniform for the award ceremony of the Olympic Games in Barcelona. Jordan covered the Reebok logo with the American flag as the players picked up their medals in the stand.
It is unknown if James and DeRozan would support the MMV Cheaters in their upcoming match, which is scheduled to begin on July 24 at 5:45 PT. But one thing is nearly certain if they do choose uniforms for the Adidas-sponsored pro-am league: They’ll be sporting checks over stripes.
