College Football Coaches Poll Top 25: Week 5

Georgia moved up to No. 1 in the most recent  AFCA Coaches Poll Week 5, and given how quickly the Bulldogs swept through September, it will be very challenging to overtake them.

A distinct top five has emerged as the first month comes to an end: Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, and Clemson.

The poll for this week, which will be announced on Sunday, will grow more fascinating from there. After No. 6, the results of Oklahoma’s home defeat to Kansas State will change as a number of teams move up in the rankings, and at least two are expected to make their top-10 debut.

Look At how those games impacted the latest AP Top 25 and Coaches Poll rankings for Week 5:

1. Georgia (4-0)

The worst of all horrors: Georgia defeated Kent State after giving away 22 points. That might not sound like much, but through three games and only one touchdown last September, the Bulldogs only allowed 23 points overall. For the reigning national champions, the bar is high.

2. Alabama  (4-0)

Bryce Young led Alabama to a 55-3 victory over Vanderbilt in the SEC opener as he had 316 yards and four touchdowns at the half. Beginning with their travel to Arkansas on Saturday of next week, the Crimson Tide now enters a key stretch of games that will determine the SEC West.

3. Ohio State (4-0)

A combined 222 rushing yards from TreVeyon Henderson and Miyan Williams helped Ohio State defeat Wisconsin 52-21 in the opening Big Ten test. The Ohio State Buckeyes have developed into the nation’s most dynamic offence as a reconstructed receiving corps gets to experience after an excessively cautious game plan in the season opener against Notre Dame. Although OSU won’t surpass Alabama, it’s important to consider if the Buckeyes have merited the No. 2 position.
