Carolina Panthers Fans Won’t Like This Major Team Setback After Loss to Cardinals in Week 4, Matt Rhule in Big Confusion

The Carolina Panthers’ offense struggled for the entirety of Sunday’s 26-16 defeat against the Cardinals. During head coach Matt Rhule’s postgame press conference, it was discussed whether the unit’s pivotal role might alter.

A handful of Baker Mayfield’s throws were deflected or intercepted at the line, including one that sailed off J.J. Watt’s hands and into the hands of Arizona for a crucial score in the fourth quarter. He was 22 of 36 for 197 yards during the day. Rhule was questioned on a QB swap following the game.

Sam Darnold

Sam Darnold has qualified to be released from the injured list and rejoin the club after a preseason injury caused him to begin the 2022 NFL season on injured reserve.

Sam Darnold will have to wait to make a return to action this season

The Carolina Panthers won’t be able to use Sam Darnold any time soon, despite Baker Mayfield’s difficulties with the NFL’s worst offense. Despite being close to fully recovered from the high ankle sprain he sustained in late August, Darnold is eligible to be activated off injured reserve on Monday, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

When Bills defensive tackle C. J. Brewer stepped on Darnold’s ankle during Carolina’s final preseason game against Buffalo, Darnold sustained the injury. Before leaving, he was unable to apply any pressure on his foot. Darnold has had a terrible NFL career thus far after the New York Jets chose him third overall in the 2018 NFL Draft.

The injury was just the latest setback for him. Sam Darnold provides Carolina Panthers another quarterback option as he is now qualified to be activated from injured reserve, though Rhule refrained from speculating on the likelihood of the Panthers taking that route.
