How many NBA Championship rings has Kevin Durant won so far?
Kevin Durant was picked by the Seattle SuperSonics as the second overall choice in the 2007 NBA Draft after playing one season of collegiate basketball for the Texas Longhorns. Before joining the Golden State Warriors in 2016, he spent nine seasons with the team before it changed its name to the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2008. He won back-to-back NBA titles in 2017 and 2018. He signed with the Nets as a free agent in the summer of 2019 after suffering an Achilles injury during the 2019 championships.
Kevin Durant’s journey to NBA Finals with Oklahoma City Thunder
After beating Dallas, the Lakers, and the San Antonio Spurs, Oklahoma City would eventually lose to the Miami Heat in the 2012 NBA Finals. Durant topped all players in the NBA Finals with 30.6 points per game on a 54.8 shooting percentage. OKC then had future MVPs Russell Westbrook, and James Harden later was awarded the 6th Man of the Year that season.
Consecutive NBA Championship wins with Golden State Warriors
Ben Golliver commented on Durant’s move to the Warriors for Sports Illustrated: “He decided to play for the NBA’s highest-scoring offense in decades and an excellent roster fit. He chooses to live with the greatest shooting backcourt in history—Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson—while choosing to practice with and not play against two of the best defenders in the world—Andre Iguodala and Draymond Green.”
Durant helped the Warriors defeat LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in 5 games. The Warriors became the first team in league history to open the postseason 12-0 when Durant returned from injury in time for the 2017 NBA playoffs. Durant also helped the Warriors reach their third straight Finals. Durant led Golden State in scoring in every game of the Finals, averaging 35.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 5.4 assists while shooting 55.5 percent from the field, 47.4 percent from beyond the arc, and 92.7 percent from the line. He was then recognized as the NBA Finals MVP.
Durant helped the Warriors take a 3-0 lead in Game 3 of the 2018 NBA Finals by tallying a postseason career-high 43 points, 13 rebounds, and seven assists in a victory against the Cavaliers. In the end, Golden State swept Cleveland to win their second consecutive title, and Durant won his second Finals MVP Award with averages of 28.8 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 7.5 assists.
KD’s Achilles injury and Warriors’ failed three-peat attempt
In Game 5 of the 2019 NBA Finals versus Toronto, Durant made a comeback and scored 11 points in the opening period. He suffered an Achilles tendon injury while attempting to drive by his old teammate Serge Ibaka two minutes into the second quarter, forcing him to leave the game. He fell and grabbed his lower right calf. He was assisted to the locker room as he hobbled off the court. The Raptors now lead the series 3-2 after the Warriors’ victory in the game. The Warriors’ attempt at a three-peat was unsuccessful as they lost Game 6 of the NBA Finals.
Currently, Durant has asked the Brooklyn Nets for a trade. Sean Marks, the general manager of the Nets, and his crew are collaborating with them to complete the task.
