Why Did Dodgers Sign Outfielder Jake Marisnick Despite Being Aware of the Cheating Scandal?

It is well-known among casual baseball fans that Dodger supporters detest the Houston Astros. An MLB investigation after the Astros’ 2017 World Series triumph over LA has discovered they used a sophisticated sign-stealing technique in both the 2017 and 2018 seasons. Then what is the need that is making Dodgers sign an outfielder Jake Marisnick?

Why Did The Dodgers Sign Outfielder Jake Marisnick Despite Being Aware of the Cheating Scandal?

Outfielder Jake Marisnick, who opted for free agency over a minor league assignment with the Detroit Tigers, has signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers now have a right-handed bat and an additional outfielder.

After signing with the Dodgers this week, 32-year-old journeyman outfielder Marisnick was welcomed into the team’s clubhouse on Friday. Marisnick enjoyed his greatest season while playing on the Astros’ famed sign-stealing squad.

Some assistance is needed for the Los Angeles Dodgers’ outfield. By defensive runs saved, they presently hold the 21st-place league ranking. The Dodgers are ranked below groups like the Chicago Cubs and Colorado Rockies.

Marisnick will likely relieve James Outman in centre field. The young outfielder is enjoying a fantastic year.

Austin Barnes, who was Marisnick’s high school teammate, Chris Taylor, who briefly played travel baseball with him growing up, and even Clayton Kershaw, who has vacationed with him in the winter, all supported Marisnick’s hiring.

“I know him a little bit. Ironically, I’ve been on vacation with him,” said Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw. “For some reason, I don’t get as mad at him because he wasn’t in the lineup — selfishly, I guess. He didn’t really affect me. At least it’s not one of the other guys, I guess.”

Not exactly a strong recommendation, but Kershaw appeared to overlook Marisnick, referring to him as a “good guy.”

“I think he’s had to deal with [the 2017 scandal] for a long time,” Kershaw said. “I think he has some remorse for it as well, which is probably all you can ask for at this point. He’s a good guy, though. He’ll help our clubhouse for sure.”

After signing with LA, Marisnick was not hesitant to mention the major issue.

“People make mistakes in this world and if you make a mistake and you’re open about it and you talk about it, typically it goes over a little better,” Marisnick said. “I’m open if there are any questions here. There’s been a few jokes already, kind of keeping it light which is good.”

Although Marisnick has yet to make a start since being acquired, manager Dave Roberts is hoping that when the club plays the Blue Jays on July 24 in Los Angeles, supporters would support the newest Dodger.

Marisnick hit.232/.270/.420 with two home runs and two stolen bases in 33 games with the Tigers this season. Marisnick is a player that can help the Dodgers advance, despite the fact that he might not be a well-known star.
