At the 2017 FIBA under-19 Basketball World Cup in Egypt, he took home the bronze medal. The Brooklyn Nets selected Diallo with the 45th overall choice in the 2018 NBA Draft on June 21, 2018. After that, the Charlotte Hornets and then the Oklahoma City Thunder received his draft rights in a trade.

As the first member of the Oklahoma City Thunder to ever win the NBA Slam Dunk Contest, Diallo claimed victory. Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk and a future second-round draught pick were received in exchange for Diallo when he was traded to the Detroit Pistons on March 13, 2021.
