The Sacramento Kings selected Mitchell as the ninth overall choice in the 2021 NBA Draft. He agreed to a rookie contract with the Kings on August 5, 2021. Along with Cameron Thomas, Mitchell was awarded NBA Summer League MVP and picked to the Summer League First Team in 2021. Mitchell also assisted the Kings in winning the NBA Summer League Championship.
