Which Teams Are Wanting To Sign Rugby Star Louis Rees-Zammit?

On the eve of this year’s Six Nations competition, Rees-Zammit resigned from Welsh rugby in order to pursue a career in the NFL in America.

Which Teams Are Wanting To Sign Rugby Star Louis Rees-Zammit?

He is presently competing to be chosen for a team’s summer training squad before to the September start of the new season.

Among the most recent teams to show interest in the Welshman are the Kansas City Chiefs, who have won three of the previous five Super Bowl victories.

Rees-Zammit unexpectedly announced in January that he was quitting rugby in order to try his luck at signing a deal with an NFL franchise.

After being released by his club, Gloucester, he became eligible for the 2024 Draft by enrolling in the NFL’s foreign player route program.

Yesterday, Zmmit visited Jets and browns both the teams.

What position Rees-Zammit would play in the NFL is unknown. At six feet three inches and 194 pounds, he is too tall to play running back but of average build for a defensive back or wide receiver. Because of his quickness, he might also be considered for return expert work.

At the IPP pro day earlier this year, Rees-Zammit hit a 29-inch vertical, a 9-foot-7 broad jump, and a 4.43 40-yard sprint time. Here’s how those figures compare to wide receivers, cornerbacks, and running backs in the 2024 NFL Combine:

40-yard dash: fourth among running backs, tied for 13th among wide receivers and 10th among cornerbacks
Broad jump: tied for 19th among running backs, 32nd (last) among wide receivers, tied for 26th (last) among cornerbacks
Vertical jump: 22nd among running backs, 32nd (last) among wide receivers, tied for 26th (last) among cornerbacks

For the first time, one foreign player will receive a dedicated 17th roster position on the practice squad for each team this season. In order to give players more chances to improve and get into games, teams may also promote an international practice squad member to the active roster up to three times in the course of the season.

A qualified foreign player is also granted one roster exemption during training camp.

“It’s always been on my mind,” Rees-Zammit said at Friday’s pro day.

“My dad has been a massive role model to me because he brought me up loving the sport. He played the sport when he was younger so it’s quite easy to love the game because I’ve been watching it from such a young age. So, it’s always been in the back of my head, but it’s just amazing to finally do it now.

How fast is zammit?

The electrifying back three player completed the 100-meter course in 10.44 seconds, giving the impression that he was scarcely exerting any heat.

How much will Zammit earn in the NFL?

Rees-Zammit will start earning about £50,000 when he enters the route. Should he be selected for the NFL practice squad, his salary for the 18-week season will likely be around $12,000 each week, or roughly £170,000.

Which Welsh rugby player moved to American football?

A goal of the 23-year-old’s is to go into the NFL’s international player pathway (IPP) and eventually play American football in 2024. After relocating to Florida, Rees-Zammit started a 10-week program.
