‘When that Silverback Arm Goes Around Your Neck…’- Conor McGregor’s Coach in Awe of His ‘MMA-Oriented’ Training Ahead of Impending UFC Return

SBG Ireland coach John Kavanagh shared some exciting news for Conor McGregor fans as he revealed the Irishman is in great shape, jockeying for a return. McGregor last competed at UFC 264 just over a year ago in a fight that saw him sustain a near career-ending injury.

However, McGregor prioritized recovery over all else and has been seen back in the gym, truly looking ready to lace on the gloves once more. Per Kavanagh, Conor McGregor has shifted his focus towards an MMA-centric training and his wrestling has become formidable in recent sessions.

“He’s healthy, happy, and it’s great to have him back. The last few sessions in the gym here were MMA-orientated – he’s got the all-clear for that now. He did a great session last night, we got some great rounds in. He hasn’t lost a beat and was looking great.”

Moreover, John Kavanagh compared Conor McGregor’s overwhelming strength to that of a silverback gorilla as he described a recent session he had with the former two-division UFC champion. It’s clear that Kavanagh expects great things from this new and improved version of McGregor.

John Kavanagh continued, “Trust me, I got to have a bit of a wrestle with him last night and I felt it. When that silverback arm goes around your neck there’s a bit of an extra squeeze there, so, he’s very very strong at the moment. But look, when we get to the stage of looking at weight classes and opponents there’s nobody more professional than Conor at making weight and it will all be done properly.” [h/t bjpenn.com]

Fans will be looking forward to news about Conor McGregor’s return, as there are a number of fighters who have called him out directly. Even the uncrowned champion of the lightweight division, Charles Oliveira is willing to allow Conor McGregor a chance to skip the line due to his megastar status.
