Brian Cashman came out swinging in his first press conference since the Yankees concluded what he called a “disaster” of a season in August.

Cashman made it apparent how he feels about the Yankees’ brain trust in general, but he also constantly alluded to distinguishing reality from “bulls–t,” suggesting that detractors were mostly heaping on amid a disappointing season for the team.

During the general managers’ meetings, Cashman declared, “I’m proud of our people and proud of our process.” “It doesn’t mean we’re firing on all cylinders. It doesn’t mean we’re the best in class.

“But I think we’re pretty f–king good, personally. I’m proud of our people and I’m also looking forward to ’24 being a better year than ’23.”.’

The Yankees have qualified for the postseason in the last six years, but since winning the World Series in 2009, they have not gone beyond. They needed a 17–10 September to prevent their first losing season since 1992 in 2023, finishing 19 games out of first place. This led to numerous calls for the firing of manager Aaron Boone, in his sixth year, and Cashman.

With Aaron Judge out of the lineup for most of June and July, the Yankees’ offence was exposed, as they ended up ranking 24th in the majors in OPS.
