VIDEO: Crazy Scenes as NIU Basketball Player Makes a Layup With a Shoe In His Hand
As iced tea and lemonade go together, basketball and footwear do as well. Basketball has sold more pairs of shoes than any other sport on the planet, including soccer, tennis, and Irish river dancing. Shoe companies are aware of this and frequently spend a lot of money on the next famous label. Michael, Steph, and Kobe.
After this video of Kaleb Thornton, a senior at NIU, hitting a layup while holding his shoe instead of donning it went viral on Tuesday, his name is now at the top. One of the most unusual layups you’ll ever see was made by NIU’s Kaleb Thornton on Tuesday night. College basketball players seldom make layups that end up on highlight reels.
NIU Basketball player’s insane layup
The senior guard surged into the lane late in the second half as Central Michigan was already losing, losing his shoe before collapsing to the floor. He was only wearing one shoe, so even when CMU grabbed the rebound, he was still well behind the action.
Did someone for NIU make a lefty layup while having his shoe in his right hand?? https://t.co/7O8d44D7bE

That remark turned out to be prescient since later that night, the play made the top 10 “Bonus Play” list and was tweeted about by SportsCenter. A few seconds later, Northern Illinois was able to steal the ball, and with Thornton still below the hoop, it gave the Huskies an exceptional two-on-one opportunity.

Thornton ended the game with 16 points, but nothing was more amazing than his shoe-in-hand layup late in the second half as NIU went on to win the game 73-54.
