Top Five Things You Did Not Know About LA Lakers Star Dennis Schroder

Although Dennis Schroder and the Lakers have a long and oftentimes tumultuous relationship, the next chapter of that tale will see him don the purple and gold for the second time. After a one-year stint with the Boston Celtics, the seasoned point guard will join the Lakers for the fourth time in ten seasons. He moved to Los Angeles as a result of a deal made during the summer, when he started 61 games, and averaged 15.4 points and 6.9 assists per game.

Before spending his first five seasons in the NBA with the Atlanta Hawks and his final two seasons with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Dennis Schroder had played for SG Braunschweig and Phantoms Braunschweig in Germany.

Dennis Schroder played years as a professional before first NBA deal at 20

Dennis Schroder was raised as a passionate skater and later discovered basketball as a pastime that rapidly developed into a vocation. He was born in Braunschweig. Four years before being chosen seventeenth overall in the 2013 NBA draft, he started playing professionally in Germany for the team that is now known as Basketball Löwen Braunschweig during the 2009–10 season.

6th in career NBA game as a German

Dirk Nowitzki has been the face of German basketball in the NBA for many years, but a long line of big men and forwards have stood in the future Hall of Famer’s shadow. Dennis Schroder now ranks sixth among all German NBA players in terms of games played, third in terms of scoring average, and first in terms of assists per game.

Owns basketball team in Germany

Since 2018, Dennis Schroder has controlled a controlling stake in Braunschweig of the Easycredit BBL, the team that represents his homeland in Germany.

Played skateboarding before basketball

At age 11, Dennis discovered basketball after spending a lot of time skating with his brother.

“I started playing when I was 11,” Dennis Schroder said. “Before that my brother and I were very serious with skateboarding. Since day one, I loved it and did not regret putting down the skateboard for the basketball.”

Couldn’t play for Germany in the 2020 Olympics due to not meeting of insurance requirements

Per the German Basketball Federation press release: “Dennis Schrοder will not play for Germany at the Olympic Games in Tokyo. The reason for this decision remains the enormous insurance requirements that cannot be met and thus prevent the point guard from being used, as was the case at the Olympic qualification tournament in Croatia.”

Dennis Schroder was unable to join the German national team’s squad for the 2020 Olympic Games since he failed to make the Olympic qualifying rounds. Despite being unable to participate in the team’s on-court activities, Schroder flew to Split, Croatia, and watched his teammates earn a spot in the 2018 Olympics from the stands.
