The Business Ventures of Charles Barkley: All you Need to Know

Charles Barkley, a former NBA player, was one of the most dominant power forwards at his time. He played the majority of his career with the Phoenix Suns and was named the NBA all-star MVP in 1991 and league MVP in 1993. He participated in the Olympic Games and won the gold medal twice in 1992 and 1996 as a “Dream Team” member. However, Barkley never won a ring. Though that hasn’t stopped him from making it big post his NBA career.

Barkley works with Turner Network Television (TNT) as an analyst for the NBA with a net worth of $40 million.  Some of his endorsement deals are Coca-Cola, McDonald’s, Nike, Right Guard, and T-Mobile.

Charles Barkley becomes one of the many to join other NBA greats in the VC game by committing capital to Alabama Futures Fund. Barkley has set up a $25 million seed-stage VC, intending to support entrepreneurs and economic development in the state of Alabama. The fund will be allocated to startups located in Alabama.

The former power forward is the latest to join other NBA stars making VC investments, such as Kevin Durant and LeBron James,

NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley also had his eyes set on television with his first series, The Line. The sports drama will be based on Charley Rosen’s 1999 tell-all book on sports gambling scandals in 1951. Barkley’s own Round Mound Media produces the series. He is also producing an upcoming series of short films entitled Dreams, directed by Sheldon Candis and Jessie Dylan.

NeuroVice, a fledgling startup, has also landed funding from Barkley. CEO and founder Ashlyn Sanders, wrote to the famous NBA legend after he appeared as a guest on ABC’s Season 10 of “Shark Tank.”, To which he wrote back and said that he would invest in her business.

“Ashlyn’s presentation was one of the most professional and charismatic business plans I’ve ever been presented,” Barkley said in a statement by email. “I wanted to do my part in ensuring her success.”

Charles Barkley is well known as an angel investor. Back in 2017, he pledged $1 million to fund Alabama black women’s tech startups.

“My goal is to help advance women in the technology field and shine a light on their efforts,” he added. “Ashlyn is a great example of someone who will leave a major mark in the industry.”

Apart from his investments and ventures, Barkley has also hosted 2017’s American Race – a TNT docu-series if you will, about race-related issues, which can be streamed on HULU.
