The 29-year-old Heinicke did not play particularly well against Philadelphia, but just enough to win.

The Philadelphia Eagles were going to have a tough time because they continuously made things difficult for themselves.

They were defenceless against the Washington Commanders. The Eagles then began to play carelessly, fumbling the ball away three times in the fourth quarter, one of which Quez Watkins grabbed for 51 yards while the Eagles were only down by two scores.

With little under two minutes left in the game, Heinicke made a heads-up play on third-and-7 from midfield. Heinicke chose to surrender himself in the pocket rather than scramble since Philadelphia had his receivers covered. He removed himself from the game just as Haason Reddick and Brandon Graham of the Eagles moved in to surround him.

After Washington quarterback Taylor Heinicke was sacked on third down with 1:30 remaining, officials immediately called the Eagles for unnecessary roughness, giving Washington first-and-10 at the Eagles’ 47-yard line. Washington received an automatic first down as a result.

On the final play of the game, the Commanders scored a final touchdown on an Eagles fumble, resulting in a 32-21 defeat for the Eagles. The Eagles’ perfect season came to an end as a result. They dropped to 8-1 and fell short of tying the franchise record of nine straight victories. The Eagles later realised that the mistakes, not the undefeated season, were what mattered.

After the game, Taylor Heinicke claimed it wasn’t his “intent” to draw a roughing penalty on the play.

“That wasn’t my intent,” Taylor Heinicke said of the play. “I wanted to stay in bounds and keep the clock rolling. I think they made a little mistake there, so I was pumped up. They kind of put it in the bag there for us.”

Meanwhile, Graham took responsibility for his mistake and said that he “let the team down” with the penalty.

“We can’t put the game in the ref’s hands. In that position, I just gotta know. If he goes down, it’s OK,” Graham said. “For me, I was just hustling to the play, trying to make sure he was down. I was just trying to get off the field.”

There was more to the conclusion that the roughing penalty, despite the fact that fans might not have liked how the game basically ended.
In replacing of Carson Wentz, who was injured, Heinicke completed 17 of 29 passes for 211 yards and a pick.
