Soccer Player Lindsey Horan Apologies For Called American Fans “Dumb”

Lindsey Horan, the captain of the United States women’s national team, began her press conference by responding to questions about her remarks from earlier this month on the level of soccer understanding among American fans, which she had made in an interview with The Athletic.

Soccer Player Lindsey Horan Apologies For Called American Fans “Dumb”

“First and foremost, I would like to apologize to our fans,” Horan said while speaking during a virtual availability ahead of the CONCACAF W Gold Cup. “Some of my comments were poorly expressed, and there was a massive lesson learned for me.”

Horan expressed her displeasure with match watchers who accepted match commentary at face value in an interview with The Athletic, going on to joke that her mother did the same thing while watching USWNT games. She took some time on Thursday to address the confusion and thank the supporters.

Horan previously chastised American supporters for “not knowing the game” and “lacking smarts” in an interview with The Athletic. As if it were so difficult to understand the American women’s World Cup defeat?

“American soccer fans, most of them aren’t smart. They don’t know the game. They don’t understand. [But] it’s getting better and better.”

“I’m gonna piss off some people,” Horan added, “but the game is growing in the U.S. People are more and more knowledgeable, but so much of the time people take what the commentators say, right? My mom does it! My mom says, ‘Julie Foudy said you had such a good game!’ And I’m here, just going, ‘I was fu-king sh-t today.’”

Horan took some time to realize that insulting her fans was an idiotic move.
