Russell Westbrook’s Wife Furious At ESPN For The ‘Vampire’ Slander

Hollywood’s time with Russell Westbrook is gone. In a historic trade with the Utah Jazz and Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday, the Los Angeles Lakers sent Russ packing. D’Angelo Russell will also be joining a retooled Lakers team in LA.

Several allegations about how Westbrook’s attitude was so troublesome within the Lakers locker room have surfaced now that he’s no longer there. Russ was even likened by ESPN’s league expert Dave McMenamin as a “vampire” who drains the blood from the room. Russell Westbrook’s wife Nina learned about this jab, and, well, let’s just say she wasn’t happy about it.

“As one source told me, ‘you remove a vampire from the locker room’.”

Dave McMenamin spoke on the Lakers moving on from Russell Westbrook.

This is just sick ESPN…” Nina wrote. “Russell is no vampire. This is also slander because anyone who knows anything knows that this couldn’t be farther from the truth.”

Nina was also quick to point out that all these attacks on her husband’s character will have a terrible impact on their children:

“On a personal note, I have school aged children who have to listen to their peers repeat the nasty things that you guys say on television about their father. I guess I will prepare myself to explain to my 5 year old that his dad is not actually a vampire, and that major news outlets say things like that to get attention,” she wrote.

Nina wasn’t the only person to leap to Russell Westbrook’s defence, though. Many prominent NBA players left comments requesting a source, which is clearly not going to be provided.

No one was implying that Westbrook is a real-life vampire, of course. McMenamin very definitely used the phrase in the same manner as Nick Saban has. The coach of Alabama has referred to players who don’t buy into his programme as “energy vampires” because they waste everyone’s time and energy by failing to perform what they are expected to do.

Nina has never shied away from supporting Russell in the face of media criticism. You might remember last year when she complained about the top point guard getting a bad moniker.
