REPORTS: Toronto Raptors Monitoring 24-Year-Old Canadian Point Guard in a Blockbuster Trade

According to reports, the Toronto Raptors are considering sending one of the best Canadian players in the league back home. Raptors recently completed a 48-win campaign in which their team outperformed all forecasts.

Their stated intention was to preserve the team’s youthful nucleus and allow it to continue developing over the off-season. However, in the NBA, things can happen rapidly. According to sources speaking to Josh Lewenberg of TSN, the Toronto Raptors are keeping an eye on Shai Gilgeous-status Alexander’s with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Toronto-born standout at Oklahoma could be weary of playing for a team that is in the process of rebuilding. Gilgeous-Alexander recently stated that he thinks the Thunder are “going on the right path” as he begins the first season of a new five-year contract.

Toronto Raptors reportedly monitoring Shai Gilgeous-Alexander

Josh Lewenberg of TSN reports: “One of the situations they’re closely monitoring, according to a league source, is in Oklahoma City, where Toronto-born star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander may eventually tire of leading a rebuild. The Thunder have gone 46-108 over the past two years and don’t seem close to turning the corner, especially after losing second-overall pick Chet Holmgren to an off-season foot injury.”

In contrast to their failed attempt to acquire Kevin Durant, the Raptors haven’t made many changes this summer up north, opting to focus mostly on internal growth.

There is a history between the two parties as the 24-year-old point guard played for Nurse’s senior men’s national squad over the summer. The Raptors would acquire one of the most talented and long young guards in the league if Gilgeous-Alexander were to join them.
