Rashad McCants Throws Shade At Austin Reaves Says ‘He Is Overhyped Because He’s White’

The Austin Reaves hype is not something Rashad McCants buys. The LA Lakers have moved up to eighth place in the crowded Western Conference during their current three-game winning run (37-37). Reaves has contributed to the Lakers’ success with 17.8 points per game and 6.0 assists per game during LeBron James’ 13-game absence.

Reaves has received a lot of accolades, and among players averaging at least 12 points per game, he is supposedly seventh in true shooting %. Following this week’s strong performance by Reaves, D’Angelo Russell thanked his teammates in front of the media.

Rashad McCants remains unconvinced despite this, despite the facts and recognition. He claims that Reaves is receiving playing time because to both his race and the fact that the Lakers are “trash.” On a recent Gil’s Arena broadcast, he made the comments.

After receiving roses from Josiah Johnson, McCants declined to apologise for doubting Reaves’ competence.

“I ain’t apologizing I was cussing y’all out last night. ‘What? Stop it! Austin what? $50 million?’ At four (years) [for] 25 [million] he’s stealing. I’d give him two for seven [million]. Nate ended up doing a one-year two mil, three year, like I look back at those players got cheated from certain contracts.

“I’m like Austin Reaves…nah Franciso Garcia got that shit … y’all giving [50 million] to him ’cause one he white and one he playing with the Lakers and they trash. So it’s like, if the Lakers ain’t trash, he ain’t playin’.”

McCants was instantly reminded that Reaves had scored 25 and 11 points the previous night when the LA Lakers defeated the Phoenix Suns 122-111. Moreover, throughout the previous two games, Reaves had averaged 30 points, including 35 in one of them.

McCants claims that the acclaim for Reaves is comparable to Jeremey Lin’s 2012 “Linsanity Run” with the New York Knicks.

The statements may be seen in the video below at about the 18-minute point.
