Paul George Talks About The Time When LeBron James Wanted To Team Up With Him

Paul George, the LA Clippers All-Star forward, invited former NBA Champion Dahntay Jones as a special guest on the most recent edition of “Podcast P” with George. Jones played for the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016, who overcame a 3-1 deficit to beat the Golden State Warriors.

Everyone understood that George’s time in Indiana was running out at the time he was moved to Oklahoma City. The star forward claims that despite several rumors speculating about George’s potential landing spot, he was in fact in conversation with LeBron James over how the  two sides could make a trade to Cleveland work.

George remarked, “I thought I was going to go to Cleveland.” “Cleveland was close to getting me with [LeBron James] there.”

George continued, saying, “I’m chopping it up with Bron like, ‘Yo, how can we make this work?’ We’re trying to figure it out. He’s going back to [Cavaliers management], telling them how to get me. So I’m thinking like, ‘Oh, okay, we might make this happen. I might be with Bron over here in Cleveland.”

This action ultimately led to a conversation when PG questioned Jones about his experience facing a team that had KD, Steph Curry, and Klay Thompson in their peak.

Jones discussed the difficulties they encountered and the mentality of the Cavs locker room after they were defeated by the Warriors the following year.

The Cavs were interested in signing him, and PG claims that a deal was nearly reached. He even had a meeting at LeBron’s residence, which he said changed his life.

George replied, “The deal almost went down.” “I didn’t know how serious it was, or I didn’t know that it could actually come to life, but after the meeting, we went to [LeBron James’] crib, we chopped it up… Bron sold it to me…”

“Aside from that, that meeting alone,” George added, “you know Bron, chef… This is a different lifestyle, like I need a chef… my whole life changed after that.”

In the end, George was moved to the Oklahoma City Thunder, where he played in the Western Conference with Russell Westbrook.
