NFL Playoff Picture Week 14: Updated AFC & NFC Standings

Week 14’s Sunday games have revealed the NFL playoff races to be as unpredictable and perplexing as ever, making this season’s homestretch one to remember. Through Week 14, the AFC has the most winning clubs (11), and the most losing teams (six) of any conference since 1970. With three of the teams in the NFC South, the NFC has four teams at 6-7. check out the updates on week 14 NFL standings.

We will no longer be using divisions in the playoff rankings; instead, we will be using conferences going forward. An explanation of each team’s tiebreaker is provided below.

Below is a summary of the current rankings and the challenges that each competitor faces following Week 14.

1. Baltimore Ravens (10-3), first place, AFC North. The Steelers’ loss on Thursday night extended their deficit to three games, and the Ravens now lead the division by two games over the Browns. In order to stay ahead of the Chiefs and maintain up with the Dolphins, the Ravens came back to defeat the Rams, another NFC rival, in overtime.

2. Miami Dolphins (9-3), first place, AFC East. The Dolphins have the conference-record tiebreaker over the Ravens for the top spot, and they lead the Bills by three games in the division. With a home game against the Titans on Monday night, they should be able to continue winning.

3. Kansas City Chiefs (8-5), first place, AFC West: What to know: Following their defeat over the Bills, the Chiefs now lead the AFC West by one game over the Broncos. Due to a head-to-head tiebreaker, they have the advantage over the Jaguars as the third seed.

4. Jacksonville Jaguars (8-5), first place, AFC South: Noteworthy information Following a defeat to the Browns, the Jaguars maintain their position as the AFC’s #4 seed. They are defeated by the Chiefs in the head-to-head tiebreaker.

5. Cleveland Browns (8-5), second place, AFC North. With their victory over the Jaguars, the Browns moved up to second place in the division, two games ahead of the Ravens, while the Steelers began Week 14 with a defeat at home against the Patriots. A game also separated them from the group of wild cards behind them.

6. Pittsburgh Steelers (7-6) third place, AFC North. On Monday night, the Steelers began Week 14 with a loss at home against the Patriots, another terrible club. However, they received a big reprieve on Sunday when the conference-record tiebreaker allowed the Colts and Texans to fall behind them and regain their postseason spot. Next up for Pittsburgh is Indianapolis, the team just behind it.

7. Indianapolis Colts (7-6), second place, AFC South: Know this: With the tiebreaker against the Texans (No. 8) for the last playoff place, the Colts, as the seventh-seeded team in the AFC, are in control. The Colts have the advantage against Houston since they defeated the Texans earlier in the season. The Colts win the tiebreaker in the conference because their record is superior to that of Buffalo (No. 11), Cincinnati (No. 10), and Denver (No. 9).

1. San Francisco 49ers (10-3), first place, NFC West. Week 13 saw the 49ers triumph spectacularly on the road against the Eagles, continuing their winning streak against the Cowboys. After defeating the Seahawks and watching the Eagles fall to the Cowboys once more, they were able to secure the top seed. Additionally, the 49ers’ division advantage grew to an unbeatable four games.

2. Dallas Cowboys (10-3), first place, NFC East. With the division record tiebreaker in hand, the Cowboys emerged victorious at home to split their season series with the Eagles, moving up in the rankings. In Week 17, they play the game behind the Lions after losing the head-to-head tiebreaker against the 49ers.

3. Detroit Lions (9-4), first place, NFC North.Things to know: The Lions are the third seed in the conference and lead the Vikings by two games in the NFC North. For the best record in the conference, they are one game behind the 49ers, Cowboys, and Eagles.

4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-7), first place, NFC South. What to know: After defeating the Falcons on Sunday, the Buccaneers are currently first in the NFC South. They lead the division because they have a superior record against opponents they share than the Falcons and hold the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Saints.

5. Philadelphia Eagles (10-3), second place, NFC East. The Eagles’ worse division record than Dallas’ caused them to fall from No. 1 down here. They will attempt to outperform the Cowboys in the final moments of the season now that the most difficult portion of the schedule has passed.

6. Minnesota Vikings (7-6), second place, NFC North. Despite their unspectacular victory in Las Vegas, the Vikings’ prospects of earning a wild card were enhanced by the losses of the Seahawks and Rams. Strangely, the division is suddenly within sight as they have also closed the gap on the losing Lions to just two games and still have two games remaining against them.

7. Green Bay Packers (6-6), third place, NFC North: What to know: The Packers take on the Giants on Monday night as the 7th-seeded team in the NFC. If they triumph, they’ll stay at No. 7.

8. Los Angeles Rams: Information to consider Following a head-to-head victory over the Seahawks (No. 9), the Rams possess the division record tiebreaker. They are currently ranked eighth in the league. Because they have a superior conference record than the Falcons (No. 10), they have the tiebreaker.
