NASCAR 2023: Dates, Times & TV Networks For All Cup Series Races

It’s time to turn the engines back on and accelerate hard once more. The stock car racing industry is aggressively pushing into the future in ways that its founders and shapers could hardly have imagined as it approaches NASCAR’s 75th anniversary in 2023.

This is an opportunity for the industry to celebrate its heritage and the ways in which it has expanded since its founding in 1948. The 2023 calendar reflecting what is ageless about NASCAR while also bringing it up to — and possibly even a bit beyond — the times makes sense in light of this.

The 2023 Cup Series calendar largely resembles the 2022 schedule in every way. The Clash at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum returns for the second year in a row, as does the Dirt Race at Bristol Motor Speedway on Easter Sunday night. Just like 2022, there is only a single off-week in the middle of June, and the 10-race playoffs remain unaltered.

Yet with the arrival of two new racetracks, there are two very noticeable changes: one brings back an old favourite after a long absence, while the other introduces an entirely new idea to one of the biggest cities in America.

  • The NASCAR All-Star Race has been moved from Texas Motor Speedway to the legendary North Wilkesboro Speedway in Wilkes County, N.C. on May 22. North Wilkesboro makes its long-awaited return to the Cup schedule after originally hosting Cup races annually from 1949 until the track was shut down following the 1996 season.
  • NASCAR returns to Chicago with the Cup Series’ first-ever race on a street course on July 2. The 12-turn, 2.2-mile course will integrate parts of Lake Shore Drive, Michigan Avenue, Columbus Drive and other parts of the city’s downtown area. The street course will take Road America’s place on the schedule.

Beginning on February 5, 2023, the NASCAR Cup Series will run for nine months until a new champion is announced on November 5.

The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum’s Clash exhibition will serve as the event’s opening act for the second year running. After that, drivers will return home to prepare for the 65th running of the Daytona 500 on February 19.

At the storied North Wilkesboro Speedway on May 21, the Cup Series will host 36 points races overall in addition to the Clash and the NASCAR All-Star Race. The regular season ends with a second race at Daytona International Speedway on Aug. 26 before the 10-race playoffs begin at Darlington Raceway on Sept. 3.

On November 5, the 2023 champion will be announced at Phoenix Raceway. Although 2014 winner Kevin Harvick will aim to take the checkered flag with a second championship trophy before retiring, Joey Logano will make an attempt to defend his crown.
