Melvin Ingram: 2021 NFL Season Of The Steelers With New Pass Rusher

Melvin Ingram is added to the Pittsburgh Steelers roster.

Pittsburgh Steelers are adding power to their already power-packed defence with Melvin Ingram. After spending nine long years with the Los Angeles Chargers, the pass rusher is moving to the Steelers. He was a free agent since March 2021 after finishing the four-year $64 million extensions with the Chargers. What is it like to have one of the best edge-rusher on the team? Well, this question must be answered by the Chargers only. However, let’s have a look at the positive this man is bringing to the Steelers.

Melvin Ingram, in his nine years with the Chargers, rack-up 49 sacks and three consecutive Pro Bowls nods. After attracting the interests of several teams like the Kansas City Chiefs and Miami Dolphins, Ingram finally landed in the Steelers this Tuesday. He is only one sack away from half-century and the Steelers will help him achieve that milestone. However, the issue here is Ingram’s health condition. He played only seven games last season because of his knee injury.

What will Melvin Ingram contribute to the Steelers?

The answer is pretty clear. The Steelers expect a career-defining season from one of the top pass rushers in the NFL. Melvin Ingram will be used opposite to the T.J. Watt and that is how the Steelers will strengthen their defence. I think the Steelers chose a one-year deal because of his last season’s performance. No team would want an injured player on their roster unless he is Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers.

The 32 years old pass rusher had some excellent seasons in his career. Also, we cannot define his capabilities based on his last season. I think that the Steelers made the right choice and Melvin Ingram will surely benefit the team. The Pittsburgh Steelers can fill the void created after Mike Hilton and Bud Dupree left, as Ingram will ease the sting. Ingram is also good with the bull-rush and with his body strength, he can create a lot of trouble for the opposite teams’ blockers. A quarterback must think twice before throwing.
