As to the report, LSU’s profit for the fiscal year 2023 was $1.36 million, indicating a decline of less than $600,000 from the fiscal year 2022. The fiscal year of the institution is July 1, 2022–June 30, 2023.

In 2023, LSU’s overall operating revenue exceeded $200 million for the first time. The university’s ticket sales increased by more than $4 million.

Operating revenue for LSU reached a record $200,476,979; this is the first time in the school’s history that revenue has exceeded $200 million.

Only Ohio State, Texas, Alabama, Michigan, and Georgia’s college sports departments were part of the $200 million revenue club in the prior fiscal year (2022). Fewer schools have reached this milestone.

In FY2023, the LSU Tigers’ athletic department earned a profit of $1,365,981. By contrast, its FY2022 earnings came in at $6.5 million.

The LSU football team earned $54.1 million in revenue overall in FY2023, while the men’s basketball team brought in $1.3 million. However, none of the sports made money: women’s basketball lost an incredible $7.8 million, baseball lost $66K, and gymnastics lost $2.4 million.

Even though the athletic department’s coaching salaries, severance payments, and what is classified as “other operating expenses” all decreased from 2022 to 2023, its spending in 2023 came in at just under $200 million, or $199.1 million, an increase of $6,4 million from 2022.

In 2023, LSU increased their recruiting expenditures for football by 100% to almost $1.9 million, from $742,713 in the previous year. However, a common feature throughout all 12 sponsored sports was an increase in recruitment expenditures, with the institution spending more in this area than it did in 2022.
