Operating revenue for LSU reached a record $200,476,979; this is the first time in the school’s history that revenue has exceeded $200 million.

Tickets sales account for a large portion of LSU sports’ revenue; in the 2022–2023 season, tickets sold for $51 million, an increase of $4.4 million over the previous reporting year.

In FY2023, the LSU Tigers’ athletic department earned a profit of $1,365,981. By contrast, its FY2022 earnings came in at $6.5 million.
The LSU football team earned $54.1 million in revenue overall in FY2023, while the men’s basketball team brought in $1.3 million. However, none of the sports made money: women’s basketball lost an incredible $7.8 million, baseball lost $66K, and gymnastics lost $2.4 million.

Even though the athletic department’s coaching salaries, severance payments, and what is classified as “other operating expenses” all decreased from 2022 to 2023, its spending in 2023 came in at just under $200 million, or $199.1 million, an increase of $6,4 million from 2022.
In 2023, LSU increased their recruiting expenditures for football by 100% to almost $1.9 million, from $742,713 in the previous year. However, a common feature throughout all 12 sponsored sports was an increase in recruitment expenditures, with the institution spending more in this area than it did in 2022.
