Los Angeles Rams Dealt a Huge Blow as Cooper Kupp Placed on Injury Reserve

The Los Angeles Rams took an extremely radical approach toward winning the Super Bowl title last year. General Manager Les Snead sacrificed a number of draft picks to secure the services of big names in order to fast-track their way to win the Super Bowl. While they did achieve that, their top-heavy approach might come back to haunt them now that Cooper Kupp will not be available for a while.

According to Ian Rapoport, “#Rams coach Sean McVay confirms that WR Cooper Kupp has a high ankle sprain and he will have tightrope surgery tomorrow. Headed to IR, he’s out at least four weeks.”

While Kupp is set to be out for four weeks, head coach Sean McVay did not rule the receiver out for the rest of the season. He went on to add that he expects Kupp to be back in action in five to six weeks.

A huge blow in the form of Cooper Kupp to the Los Angeles Rams

The incident took place during the Rams game week 10 game against the Cardinals when in the fourth quarter Cooper Kupp attempted to catch a pass from quarterback John Wolford. Kupp appeared to grab his right ankle after the play and was helped to the bench by the team’s medical staff.

McVay shared his thoughts on losing a key component of his team. He said, “Obviously you never ever replace a player like Cooper Kupp, but we’ve got to figure out the best way to accentuate the skill sets of the guys that will be playing,”

The Los Angeles Rams head coach continued, “How does that surgery go? But I don’t think you want to pigeonhole yourself into one approach, but you do know that the first step is the surgery and then the appropriate steps will be followed after that.”

The Los Angeles offense has depended on Kupp this season: Entering Week 10, Kupp accounted for 35.7% of the Rams’ catches this season, which is the highest mark by any player in the league. He entered the game with 72 receptions, for a pace of 153 over a 17-game season.
