Knicks’ Josh Hart’s Love For Candy Knows No Bounds

Josh Hart, who is just 6’4″, is a hustler on the defensive end and has the ability to get some serious rebounds. This 28-year-old Knicks rebounding monster has a deep affection for Mike & Ike candies that goes all the way back to his high school days. It began as a pre-game tradition and continued through college and the NBA.

Knicks’ Josh Hart’s Love For Candy Knows No Bounds

Hart, the slender forward for the Knicks, is the exact opposite of obese.

In addition, he is now 28 years old, a father of twin twins, and a seasoned NBA player who is free to flaunt his cherished Mike & Ike’s.

Hart always has a family-sized bag of the sweets and a bag of popcorn at his locker before the game.

“I’d dump a box of Mike & Ike in my parka. Because if they ever saw me with it, they’d make me throw it out,” Hart said in an interview with The Post. “So I had to sneak it and hide it. Like I was like a little fat kid.”

When Josh first arrived at Villanova University in 2013, he won three Big East Rookie of the Week awards. As a parent of twin sons today, Josh remembers how, when he was a Villanova student, his sinful pleasure would cause him to hide his sweets from Coach Jay Wright.

Josh knew full well that Coach Jay was a tough disciplinarian when it came to food, just like every coach in history. But he was able to discover ways around this since he loved the candies.

To add a little spice, he added a bag of Air Heads.

“I just threw those in the order, said f–k it,” Hart said. “Just a little other addition to see how it vibes.”

The Mike and Ike  ritual, which started in high school (the popcorn was added in the NBA), can’t be accused of sapping Hart’s energy.

“Before you ask, yes, I’ve had cavities, I’ve had root canals,” he said.

When Hart was a member of the Pelicans and had a root canal during the 2020 Orlando COVID-19 pandemic, it was the worst instance of dental neglect.

Hart was advised by the dentist to refrain from eating for a time, but his bubble experience was disrupted when sugar phoned during a game.

“It was an exhibition, a ramp-up game, and I wasn’t playing,” Hart said. “So I was on the sideline. And I started eating Mike & Ike’s. And I ripped the crown out. So I was screwed. For like the duration of the bubble, I had an open tooth.”

Hart’s pregame food contributes to his image as the jovial, carefree locker room clown.
