Knicks Fans Slam Candace Parker For Jalen Brunson Critique

TNT pays Candace Parker to provide insightful commentary during the network’s NBA coverage. Regarding the players participating in the game of the night, one would think that she would be well-informed and have her opinions straight, but on Tuesday night, that was not the case at all.

Knicks Fans Slam Candace Parker For Jalen Brunson Critique

Parker made it a point to discuss Knicks point guard Jalen Brunson on TNT’s pregame program before to the Knicks vs. Brooklyn Nets game. She felt compelled to discuss Brunson’s postseason exploits for whatever reason prior to a regular season game in the first part of January.

She started talking about Brunson on the proper foot—albeit a bizarre one—but then she brought up how he faltered in the playoffs’ second round the previous year.

Knicks supporters made sure Candace Parker didn’t get away with her error.

Tuesday night, Parker, the analyst for “NBA on TNT,” stated that Jalen Brunson struggled during the Knicks’ previous year’s Eastern Conference semifinal series defeat to the Heat.

“When the game slows down in the playoffs, and you get jammed up, we’ve seen Jalen Brunson in the playoffs with the [Mavericks], and he was No. 2, No. 3, came in, played minutes, supplemented Luka [Doncic] handling the ball, but as a No. 1 option last year in the playoffs, great first round, second round not so much,” Parker said before the Knicks’ 108-103 road win over the Nets.

During the New York team’s victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers in the opening round of the previous season, Brunson performed admirably. It was undoubtedly not Brunson’s fault that the Knicks were unable to overcome the Miami Heat in the second round.

During the series against the Heat, Brunson’s important metrics increased significantly. He increased his points per game by seven points and increased his assist average from round one to round two.

Parker went on to say that Brunson was a defensive liability because of his 6-2, 190-pound size, quoting ESPN pundit and head coach of the Aces Becky Hammon’s assertion that the Villanova alum was too tiny to be “a 1A dude” who led a championship run.

It makes sense that Parker’s remarks and those of his former and current teammates infuriated Knicks fans.

Parker, who was receiving criticism from Madison Square Garden supporters, moved to X to rephrase her remarks in a thread, calling Brunson a “fn monster [sic]” and endorsing his request to play in his first NBA All-Star Game.

“The question was not can you win with a small player as your best player,” Parker said. “It’s can you win a CHAMPIONSHIP with a small player as your best player? Everyone throwing me and tweeting me stats. You are missing the point. (Allen Iverson) (w)as my absolute favorite player…. Despite avg 35.6 (points) in the (2001) finals, they lost to the Lakers. (Chris Paul) despite (numbers) lost… no one since Isiah Thomas has won as the best player on their team and also being the smallest.”
