Khabib Nurmagomedov’s Manager Goes Off on Beneil Dariush’s Recent Booking in the UFC: ‘When Is He Going to Get a Title Shot? When He’s 40?’
Dominance MMA manager Ali Abdelaziz expressed his disappointment in a recent interview with ‘The Schmo’ over Beneil Dariush’s current booking cycle in the UFC. Dariush is one of the fighters on Abdelaziz’s vast stable and he’s been vying for a title fight for a meaningful period of time.
Beneil Dariush hasn’t competed in the UFC since defeating Tony Ferguson late last year in rather dominant fashion. He’s now salivating for an opportunity to fight for gold after recovering from an injury, but the championship fight continues to elude him.
Instead, UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi will see Islam Makhachev face the uncrowned champion of the lightweight division Charles Oliveira in a showdown. This bout is meritorious in its own right and Beneil Dariush will be out for the entirety of this year if he waits to face the winner.
Ali Abdelaziz airs frustration about Beneil Dariush’s future bookings
Abdelaziz believes Dariush’s wait to reach the top has been far too extensive and was agitated by the fact that he’s been on the shelf for a long-time. He made a tongue-in-cheek comment about Beneil Dariush finally fighting for the belt when he is 40 years of age.
“Everybody is out. Beneil, he deserves a fight. I believe he could fight Islam for the lightweight title.”
Praise God baby Alva is finally here!

“UFC and Sean is doing his job, but he can’t force guys to fight. Everybody is holding their rankings. I don’t like the rankings. Beneil is on an eight-fight winning streak, when is he going to get a title shot? When he’s 40? All these guys who have been losing, they shouldn’t be turning down fights. We’re gonna figure it out, we always do.” [h/t bjpenn.com]
Beneil Dariush has shown that he belongs amongst the very best lightweight fighters and is likely in the pipeline for a massive battle to determine his next step in the company. He’s riding an 8-fight win streak and has racked up impressive stoppage victories over some gritty lightweights during his rise.
It remains to be seen how the UFC handles his match-making following Abdelaziz’s recent comments.
