Kevin Durant Knew He Was Never Going to Win a Championship With Brooklyn Nets – Nets are Doomed
The revelation that Kevin Durant had asked the Brooklyn Nets for trade on Thursday threw the NBA into a frenzy. There was a lot of anticipation as free agency got underway to see which players would be moving around the league. It wasn’t anticipated that Durant would also be a part of that crew, but he is.
Recent events involving Durant have also highlighted the changing circumstances involving star colleague Kyrie Irving. Irving confirmed he will exercise his player option, indicating a potential return to the Brooklyn Nets, following rumors that he would be moving. Now it appears that Irving may also be on his way out.

The Nets will be the worst failure of all. Every time they attempt to make a huge statement and put everything on the line, it backfires. So ideal that we have this trade request on the day of free agency, just following Kyrie’s decision to “remain” with Kevin Durant. You shouldn’t tack your wagon to Kyrie for this reason.
Brooklyn Nets are doomed as Kevin Durant demands a trade
Keep in mind what Brooklyn sacrificed to get James Harden. This is the selection is sent to the Rockets: 2024 first-round pick, 2025 first-round pick swap, 2026 Nets first-round pick, and 2027 first-round pick swap are the first-round pick exchanges. As a result, Houston will have control over Brooklyn’s selection for the following five years, eliminating any motivation for the Nets to engage in a methodical dismantling and rebuild.
The Rockets may have just struck pure gold today. GOLD. The draft picks owed to Houston:
2023 first-round pick swap
2024 first-round pick
2025 first-round pick swap
2026 first-round pick
2027 first-round pick swapEvery single one is… (wait for it) … UNPROTECTED.

The Rockets have pretty much nailed what a perfect rebuild should include since the Harden trade to Brooklyn. In terms of both their first-round selections and their value picks in the second round, they made good draft choices. The Nets should eventually realize that perhaps they shouldn’t be surrendering several unprotected first-round draft picks. For them, everything always comes to a terrible conclusion.

Though players who can boost the Nets’ immediate competitiveness carry considerable value, the Nets should still be driven to recoup some draft money in any Durant deal. The end of one of the most spectacular teams on paper that fell short of a championship run would come if Durant and Irving go.
