Brooklyn Nets guard Kyrie Irving (calf) won't play on Wednesday against the shorthanded Golden State Warriors. During warmups, Irving experienced tightness in his calf, so head coach Jacque Vaughn opted for the safe approach and keep him out. In the meantime, Ben Simmons will take over at the one, with Edmond Sumner expected to get extra minutes in relief.

Nonetheless, if he's not in the lineup for the meeting with Memphis, Edmond Sumner should continue to benefit, with the 26-year-old logging 11.6 points and 1.7 steals in seven starts in 2022-23.

So far, his rebound, steal, and block numbers have been the best in his career. His assists, on the other hand, have taken a hit. As the team still gets accustomed to Ben Simmons and their other scorers get healthy again, we may see Irving's assists increase. For now, fantasy managers can enjoy the added defense with the always elite scoring output.

Nonetheless, although there is still some time before the start of the 2022-23 campaign, Irving's chances of being moved seemingly decrease as each day passes, which likely won't motivate him to remain on the floor.
