Kevin Durant Called Out By Giannis: “Let me teach you how to carry your own team”

Giannis Antetokounmpo had some strong words to say about Kevin Durant. On a recent episode of ‘The Daily Show’, the Greek superstar called out his NBA counterpart by mocking his inability to “carry” teams.

“You keep joining superteams to win an NBA title. How about we work out together sometime so I can teach you how to carry your own team.”

During his career, Giannis Antetokounmpo remained with the Milwaukee Bucks, helping to elevate them to perennial powerhouse status. When they defeated Kevin Durant’s new club, the Phoenix Suns, 4-2 in the finals, he assisted them in capturing the title in 2021.

Durant won two titles and the MVP prize for the finals on both occasions. There is an asterisk next to their victories, though. When KD joined the Warriors, they were already the hot favourites and coming off a 72-9 season.

With Kyrie Irving as his teammate, Kevin Durant joined the Brooklyn Nets and established a super team. Durant made a comeback the next year after being injured and missed the first season as a Net. With the addition of James Harden to Brooklyn, fans and detractors once more questioned KD’s capacity to triumph without a super team.

The situation in Brooklyn didn’t work out for a variety of reasons, causing Durant to ask for a trade before the deadline and join the Phoenix Suns, another strong contender with a star-studded roster.

While being spoken in fun, the statement included some truth. Durrant has in fact faced criticism in the past for pursuing championships and switching to better clubs rather than proving his value by standing up to the bat.

The Pheonix Suns’ freshly acquired Durant has not yet responded to the remark. Supporters are impatiently watching to see how he responds. Despite Durrant’s reputation as a laid-back guy, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him retaliate against Giannis, especially in light of how blunt Greek was in his words.
