Kenny Pickett Explains Why He Denied Dressing As A Backup For Seahawks Game: Drama Brewing?

Kenny Pickett, the feisty quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers, began his media availability on Tuesday by refuting reports that he did not want to back up Mason Rudolph in Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks.

Having started every game in which he has played this season, Pickett has missed time due to a high ankle sprain that occurred in Week 13. He stated that he was not cleared by doctors to play against the Seahawks.

Despite Pickett’s return from injury, coach Mike Tomlin declared on Monday that Rudolph will start for the club against the Baltimore Ravens in the regular-season finale.

Tuesday, Pickett began his media appearance by denying the veracity of the claims.

“Just got told that Pickett 100 per cent refused to be the backup. That the Steelers writers know that but won’t write it,” Mark Madden of 105.9 in Pittsburgh wrote on X on Monday.

Pickett refuted that claim Tuesday.

“I saw reports out there that I felt like were attacking my character and how I am as a person, not even getting into the player standpoint of it,” Pickett told reporters. “There was no talk of me being a backup quarterback this week in terms of being a two. If I was healthy enough to play and the trainers and coaches felt like I would look good enough to play, I was gonna start and play. If they believed I was not, which they believed I was not, I was not gonna dress and suit up for the game.

“It’s kind of crazy what people will write and put out there to try to prove their point or help their standpoint or their careers in what you guys do. Disappointed to see that without any proof or basis of it.”

Rudolph started the 30-23 victory over Seattle for the second time in a row. After Mitchell Trubisky lost three straight games, two of which he started, he was designated the starting lineup. In Week 13’s defeat to the Arizona Cardinals, Pickett had an ankle injury that necessitated surgery. Trubisky was filling in for him.

According to the Seahawks game injury report, Pickett was deemed doubtful. He stated that he is healthy enough to start as the backup against the Baltimore Ravens in the season finale, according to the coaches and trainers. A postseason berth is at stake for the Steelers.

“They feel good four weeks out of the surgery for me to dress and be the 2,” he said. “So I will be the 2 and do what I have to do to be ready to go for Baltimore.”

How many rushing yards does Kenny Pickett average per game?

This season, Kenny Pickett has averaged 4.5 yards per game when rushing.

What record did Kenny Pickett break?

Ben Roethlisberger’s team record for the most straight throws without an interception was surpassed by Pickett during Pittsburgh’s 16-10 victory. When Pickett completed his 208th throw attempt without a pick, he surpassed Roethlisberger’s record.
