Jets Took Help Of A Fan To Lure Mike Williams Into Signing, But How?

Some of the most fervent and rowdy sports fans in the world are NY Jets supporters. That much was made clear on Tuesday morning when a well-known fan helped recruit free-agent wide receiver Mike Williams by sending a breakfast sandwich to the team’s Florham Park headquarters.

Jets Took Help Of A Fan To Lure Mike Williams Into Signing, But How?

Indeed, this is a true account of what transpired.

Williams is supposedly having a meeting with the Jets on Tuesday morning. In an attempt to give their side an advantage over the opposition, some Jets supporters have gone to extraordinary lengths.

Author of content @NYJ_Tuesday morning, Matt got the idea to order a Taylor Ham, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich—the quintessential New Jersey sandwich—from DoorDash and have it delivered to Mike Williams’ locker room at the Jets.

Williams, who has two seasons with 1,000 yards in his career, is in Florham Park, New Jersey, for a free agency visit this Tuesday. Last week, the Chargers cut him due to salary limit issues.

“The Jets desperately need a WR2,” @NYJ_Matt wrote to The Post directly. “This is something I have never done before. I will always make this gesture if it may raise the likelihood that he will sign by even 0.1%.

Matt tweeted a picture from the DoorDasher at 8:17, demonstrating that the sandwich had reached the Jets’ facility’s gates.

It might seem like the narrative ends there, but it doesn’t. The NYJ Matt in question is this one.

The sandwich had successfully entered the Jets’ building when a picture was posted on the team’s official Twitter account four minutes later.

“Please hand it to the person at the door and say this is for Mike Williams and let him know that catching passes from Aaron Rodgers is more fun than catching from Bryce Young,” was Matt’s directive to the driver.

Williams is apparently also going to the Steelers and Young’s Panthers.

As it turned out, he received (and shared) a picture of the admission booth security officer clutching his lunch bag.

Is Mike Williams a good receiver?

With a minimum of 250 receptions, the 29-year-old receiver has topped the NFL in yards per reception since 2018. Williams is ranked No. 12 among the NFL’s Top 101 free agents for 2024 by Gregg Rosenthal.

Why did the Chargers release Mike Williams?

Mike Williams’s last location Chargers cut WR in order to avoid paying the $20 million salary cap.

How long has Mike Williams been with the Chargers?

Williams, who has spent his whole seven-year career with the Chargers, had limited action last season due to an ACL injury, but he still managed 249 receiving yards and a score.
